[Amazon.ca] Weller 140/100 Watt Soldering Gun, $20.98

Amazon has the Weller 140/100 watt soldering gun for $20.98, which is a pretty good deal. Deal probably won't last long.

Home depot has the same for $69.98: https://www.homedepot.ca/product/weller ... 1001101981

Title should be more descriptive, power and price.

Jumped on it as my 60w wondering iron isn't powerful enough for large wires like 4awg.

Thanks

Thanks. It's a good replacement for my old "stick" style iron.

Not a Hakko but for $20, its a good snag. Thinking of picking it up just for cutting & smoothing with the incl tips. Great catch OP

For anyone considering this, please see attached screenshot of Amazon reviews. Definitely save your money and get something with replaceable tips and safe to use if you're trying to learn how to solder or even solder frequently/professionally.

I struggle with my cheapo stick iron.

Would I have better luck with this for minor repairs around the house? Not fixing circuit boards here.

Weller's been around for ages & perhaps even longer than the industry standard Hakkos & yes it's no longer made in USofA so I don't doubt there'll be some defective units out of thousands upon thousands sold. Plus we don't know the exact circumstance of usage & failure as we all know its human nature to blame any & every except ourselves.

FWIW there are replaceable tips & being a 140/100w "gun", it is also by design not meant for finer soldering. I don't know what you mean by "professionally" but yes one would think a pro will be using a better heat adjustable soldering station than a mere $20 soldering gun.

What’s your impression so far? Will it last unlike some reviews which state it’s a POS

I had a similar one from princess auto, lasted maybe 5 minutes.
This must be a licensed Weller tool, not actually made by Weller.

These suck unless you are soldering something big. Much better to get a pen one for electronics. I havent had good luck with the cheap ones so I bought a moderately priced stm32 based unit in off aliexpress. Works fast and is awesome. Uses standard t12 tips but probably too expensive for redflaggers hah

Alot of Dewalt & Milwaukee power hand tools are made in China & I assume by a licensed OEM. Could always be wrong but I think you'll get some serious kickback if you assert that its the same as a chi-noname tool. Being a Dewalt owner of many, that isn't so. At least my experience hasn't shown it to be so.

But ya, it could all come from the same factory but I would think its logical to assume Weller would impose a greater QA on its product even if that were the case.

IMO get a butane or wireless if it's really 'around the house' having no wires to deal with is beneficial. If it's once a year go fuel it'll be cheaper in the long run than dead batteries.

IMO worth it for marine/automotive/around house. I wouldn't expect to fix surface mount with this or wire up 32awg stuff but for general use it's fast and hot. 6 piece also has hot air tip to use as heat gun.

Else get a 40W to 100W tipped iron from a company which has easy to find replacement tips, and keep an extension cord handy.

adjustable power

Reliable. I've used this model weller for 10 years no issues. There's cheaper ones with non removable tip as well. Only used this. Notice the wattage, it's low not much desoldering. Can't really recommend at $70 but can at half that.

Buy two, then hopefully one will work.
