Please do not put anything that grants access to your home on a smart device, especially one sold by a third party seller.

Bought this.. One of my favorite deals on here.

My garage is detached.. Just walk up saying 'hello google open door' then saying pin number.

Likes that it reminds me I left it open too..

Just finished installing this yesterday, works very well as long as you have strong wifi signal in the garage.

Very easy to install as well - my garage door opener was actually not compatible as per the setup guide, but I still got it to work

How hard is it to install? I have a MyQ and hate that it only allows the door to be closed by voice control.

What do you mean only by voice? The MyQ app can be used or if you install Homebridge then you can use an api to open via HomeKit (which is what I am doing).

Just another easier way to hack into your network and get access to your vehicle or home electronics. Most garage door issues can be resolved by replacing the transmitter battery or getting the OEM garage door remote. Many aftermarket ones can be a hit and miss.

Not everything needs WIFI or Amazon Alexa/Google Assistant.

Pretty easy if you're comfortable with connecting wires. You look at the existing wires connected to the door opener to figure out where to add in the smart door opener. It comes with a little wire to short the connections on your door opener to see which two wires need to be connected to the smart door opener. If the garage door opens when shorted, those are the correct terminals to attach the device. Then you run the sensor from the smart device to the door frame and attach the other half of the sensor to the door.

It works well overall. The hardest part is probably figuring out the best place to put the sensor for detecting if the door is closed or not. You don't want the door to physically hit the sensor when opening and closing but you need it close enough for the other half of the sensor. I think this opener's sensor is the better choice though. Some other smart garage devices use some kind of gyro sensor attached to your door. If not calibrated correctly or if it drifts then it tends to not know whether the door is opened or closed. This one is a magnet sensor so it works as long as the sensors are close enough to each other.

Also, you don't have to use voice to control the door. This one piggy backs on the garage door button. So you can still use your button and any remotes. If your door doesn't support the direct connection, the company said they'll send you an adapter. I think it's just a remote that is controlled by the device so you do have to pair it with your opener.

The only reasonable way to install this is with something like node-red or home assistant, on a separate network without internet, touch control (using the handset's unlock). Giving any 'smart device' direct access to your network, or having to say your PIN? C'mon. That's a short and long term recipe for disaster.

Hmmm. Poor wording on my part maybe? I can also open/close the door by the app.

What I meant was, it doesn't allow me to open the door using voice control. It only allows for the garage door to be closed by voice control.

I use smartthings. I wonder if there's a smart app available for it. Time to start digging.

Thanks for the detailed response.

Re:security. You decide if you want this in your home. I'm fine with it especially paired with my garage cam.

Re: product. I ordered it last year from another post on RFD when it was on sale. Not only did it work with my archaic garage door opener but support was very quick to respond. I was thoroughly impressed with th product and support.

Hope this helps

I'd be more worried about putting random devices on my home wifi. At least put it on a guest network.
Do we really think that hackers in china will break into your house using smart devices? That's way too much effort.
Thieves have much faster and easier ways of getting into your house. Door locks are trivial to pick. Windows are easy to break. Cars in the driveway are broken into to use the garage opener to get into your house.
If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.

Bought one, turns out I never use it.. I bought one of those numeric pads that hangs on the outside, quite a bit easier to use.

I have been using the non-homekit version for ~4 years - I don't even know where our oem remotes are anymore. I have had to power-cycle these for errors only *twice* in this period.

Only once did one of the garage doors randomly open - I got the notification on the phone, away from home. Had to have a human go to the house and get into the garage and manually close the garage door. Since then, I have put a camera pointing at the garage doors (one inside the garage and one outside affixed to a tree) to prevent any mishaps - none have happened since.

For the first week or so, the weak wifi signal in the garage was affecting its operability, Moved one of our mesh devices inside the garage, and has been stable since.
