[Amazon.ca] X470 motherboards on sale for $129.99 - MSI X470 Gaming Plus MAX or ASUS Prime X470-Pro

Per the title. Great deal for these 2 boards. X470 Gaming Plus Max is ryzen 3000 ready out of the box. Asus board may not be, and isn't currently in stock, but is due in stock in a week. Both are ship and sold by amazon. I wish I was doing a new build.

What was the downvote for...I know someone is always going to give them, but I don’t think there are any other X470 boards near this price.

IMO the asus is better featured, but it seems to have more people complaining about issues. MSI may be a better choice from a stability point of view. Really a personal call.

did extensive research on these 2 boards
price is pretty good for canada, however, when I was looking up info on these boards, they were regularly at or under 120$ usd a year ago.

both boards have subpar vrm heatsink
if you intend to overclock a 6 core, YMMV. -> indepth reviews says you shouldnt even overclock for 8 cores

asus board has NO debugging leds, no dual bios
msi has 4 debugging leds (aka the minimum), no dual bios
msi's extra 4 pin power connector is completely useless and unnecessary

I forget but both boards don't have (or dont have easy to access) cmos reset
ssaketh wrote: Which is better?
having said all that, the conclusion i arrived at was, both boards are pretty much neck to neck
msi has the tiniest edge for overclocking
asus has the tiniest edge for overall features/components

I was actually going to post this deal a week ago because it's been 'on sale' since boxing week, however, when I learned the regular/sale price in the US was under 120$ a year ago, i didnt necessarily feel it was a good deal

According to https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... w?sle=true, OCing 8 cores should be fine as long it's a Ryzen 3000 series CPU (lower TDP then last gen). Also it seems like the ASUS has marginally better VRM cooling.

For msi, anything that says MAX is Ryzen 3600 etc compatible. For asus, check reviews and questions/answers section.

Both of these boards are slightly worse than a good B450 board (like the Tomahawk max/Carbon AC etc) but if you want one now i'd get the Asus. Reviews say that they're ryzen 3xxx ready as well.

No no no you're doing it wrong. you want at least a 6/8core on this. I can see that you want a cheaper chip that has integrated graphics so you don't have to buy another gpu but that is irrelevant because they don't take much extra power to begin with. AMD MIGHT announce 6core APU/GPU integrated chips in a week not sure though but it still wont be released til like july i think.

Id just get a very cheap mobo or wait for a sale on a b450s and get a 2700 or 3600. but you'll need a separate GPU with those (add another $50-100 for that)
