For those worried about these controllers becoming outdated with the new console releases, the current Xbox One controllers are said to be forward-compatible with Microsoft's next gen platform.

For anyone with a PSP discount at The Source there’s lots of good options there too:

From Microsoft's website:
When you connect an Xbox Wireless Controller to your Windows 8.1 or Windows 7 PC with a micro-USB cable, Windows will automatically download and install the drivers for the controller. If Windows is not set to automatically download device software, you can check for updates through Device Manager.
Oops I'm mistaken about it working wirelessly, check the comment below mine.

And about your point on the Steam controller I wouldn't worry about that since the $5 deal was never available for Canadians lol. It seemed to be US exclusive (and I know since I tried to buy one when it was on sale)

it will work wired but i don't think it will come with the wire in the box.
wireless bluetooth only works for windows 10 or android, for windows 7 you need the usb wireless dongle.

I believe Walmart has white and black ones for 49.99. And this one for 55$. I buy them on sale for 49.99 from Walmart since it’s only 5$ more for device protection. I might be one of those people who are hard on controllers as I have returned two under the protection plan. I don’t think amazon offers protection on these any longer. Thanks

I won't buy another controller from Amazon either. They only accept returns within 2 months of the purchase and Microsoft only gives a 90 day warranty on Xbox One controllers. I bought one in the past and it broke after 3 1/2 months. How long is Walmart's warranty if you buy the device protection? What's covered and not covered for controllers?

Get your controller from costco. If they break return them. Consoles and controllers didnt fall under electronics return policy last time I checked.(over 2 years ago)

I have bought a black wireless controller some months ago and the same happened to me. I unfortunately waited to use it and after some weeks, past the waranty date, the "RB" button became very hard to press to obtain a reaction. After several weeks and comprimed air to try to "clean" it, it began inexplicably to work again. I was about to open it. I cross my fingers.

If someone knows why, I would be interested to know, but my advice is to test a controller under the warranty period if you buy a new one. Also, prefer to buy a recent model, since there may be less chances of receiving a deffective or less advanced one.

The warranty doesn't start until you "activate" the controller and that happens when you first pair it with your console.

Login here with your Xbox email and enter the serial number of your controller to check if it's eligible.

Sometimes they are. Not sure about right now though. But $50 for a controller that lasts 3 months vs $60 for one that lasts forever, I choose $60
