[Amazon.ca] Xbox Wireless Controllers: Standard and limited time Special Editions - $58.99 (20-25% off)

Amazon.ca, Costco, The Source and other retailers currently have the standard and some limited time Special Edition Xbox Wireless Controllers on sale for $58.99, $15.00 - $20.00 or 20% to 25% off their regular price of $74.99 to $79.99. Amazon both sells and fulfills these so has free and easy returns through January 31, 2023.

If buying from The Source don't forget your Partner Savings Program, Bell Advantages or SPC student card discounts if you qualify (see post #43).

These work great, of course, with an Xbox but are also excellent via bluetooth with Windows, MacOS, Linux, anyone getting a Steam Deck, Android TVs such as the Shield or Chromecast with TV, Android phones, etc.

Here are all the options:

There is a newly released (for a limited time) Lunar Shift Special Edition with silver and gold shifting colour surface front, dark and bright side of the rear with rubberized and texturized swirl grips (no 2 the same) back in stock and on sale for $59.99 on Amazon, more on The Source and some other retailers:

(if interested, Razor has it's matching Lunar Shift charging stand for an extra, and not currently on sale, $59.99)

I used to think not until recently my two year old controller has started to have issues with the left joystick and the right bumper. And I'm not a heavy gamer. The other controller I bought on launch day feels flimsy and I don't think QC on that is very good. I'm going to grab one this time around for a backup and another one down the road if it gets cheaper.

Well of course, if you have friends and/or family that play split-screen co-op games. There are a ton of great ones out there that can be both hilarious to play together and really fun/competitive.

A few examples:
https://gamerant.com/best-coop-splits-s ... game-pass/

As stated in the OP, these controllers are also great via built-in bluetooth for PC, Mac, Android TV and many more platforms, both individually and via split-screen co-op gaming. We own many Xbox controllers in our family for a wide variety of uses.

For PC use would the 8Bitdo controller with the Hall joysticks be better? It's $18 more but sounds like it would be more reliable. I'm still using an original DS4 from 8 years ago and it's getting pretty bad.

This new Lunar Shift Special Edition has rubberized grips. Our family also owns the Forza Horizon 5 Limited Edition, 20th Anniversary Edition, Aqua Shift and Lunar White Specials with rubber grips.

Right off the bat they'd be very similar. After some time, however, no doubt the hall effect sensors in the 8Bitdo would be (and remain) much more accurate. I'm personally invested in official Xbox controllers, but the 8Bitdo Ultimate is a nice controller for PCs.

They still do come up every once in a while, but they're pretty few and far between these days, unfortunately.

Most games will have non-changeable on-screen Xbox mappings (A, B, X, Y, etc) so an Xbox controller fits better in that sense. It can get kind of confusing when you see Xbox controls but need to mentally map them to PS controls.

I know the buttons by memory now, so that's not really necessary for me. I'm more wondering if this is a big enough jump from the 360 controller to justify it, or if the Dualsense would be better for just a bit more.

Compatibility is a lot higher with the Xbox controller (specially outside of Steam such as Ubi or Epic games, etc). The Dualsense can be made to work but it takes some 3rd party drivers and other configuration steps that can get a bit tedious. I prefer the feel of an Xbox controller, personally, and also like the ability to simply swap batteries during long play sessions. With Dualsense you need to recharge when its dead, stopping your gameplay (or get tethered). Steam has increasing support for the better Dualsense haptics, but its still hit and miss there and near non-existent outside of Steam. Touchpad, mic and speaker and other features are very hit and miss as well on the Dualsense.

You'd probably get 50 different answers from most people but personally the Xbox controller is a no-brainer when it comes to PC (and Steam Deck, etc) gaming.

Is that the only one with the rubberised grips?
