[Amazon.ca] Yi Smart Dash Cam $48.99 (30% off)

Was looking for a dash cam, saw a bunch of reviews for the Yi's cam, one of the cheaper but still good cameras, even better at $48.99 + free shipping

Yi smart Dash Cam Yi smart Dash Cam
or the Yi Nightscape dashcam for $64.78

I haven't used them yet (just ordered) but reviews seem good.

I've tried both models and I would say the nightscape model isn't worth the difference if your primary reason for choosing it is the night mode quality. There's barely a difference, if at all.

However, you might prefer going with it if you want the capacitor vs. the battery in the regular model.

The nightscape model also uses a different mount size (guessing it's also a non standard size) so you can't move between the two

Absolutely love mine being using it for 4 years now no problems in - 44C or + 40C. Using the battery model.

I picked this one up for about $1 more on sale in September. I wasn't interested in spending a lot and this does a decent job at recording for my purposes. I like the wifi connectivity to my phone for accessing content of SD card.
I didn't used the included adhesive mount. I got this one which uses suction to stick. FLOVEME Long neck mount
No problem with either to this point.

What recording quality do you guys use? Got this last year and it's not very clear at 1080p; it barely makes out license plates.

You cant get a dashcam that can read license plates well at this price point. Even at the $200 price point you'll be hard pressed unless its 4K but still. As long as it records 1080p or 1440p you should be good in terms of recording potential collisions.

Ya, for general recording it's pretty good, I just worry one day I record a hit and run and no footage to identify the other car. Better than nothing I suppose.

does this do 1080 well enough?

wondering if it's worth going with the viofo models
everyone raves about. but if the viofo can't pick up
license plates either what's the point?

jimboski do you recommend this? thanx

For those that already have this, did you change any settings to get appropriate size videos?

Every few seconds of video on my SD card creates a new file and there are duplicates of each video.
1 minute video around 400mb fills up the SD card very quickly and overwrites video when the card is full

Thanked! Bought the capacitor version, since my current dash cam is dying.
