As I move towards Smart technology, i realized some appliances you need the old school metho in order to take advantage of Smart Plugs. ie, i needed a humidifier but realized the digital ones wouldn't allow me to turn it on and off via Google Home, so I went with the old school knob version.

+1. The dummy version is also good for faux sous vide

I'm not sure what benefit the smart plug will have. If you want a knob style slow cooker with a smart plug so you can program a delayed start, then that's a bad idea because you may have raw meat breeding bacteria before the cooker turns on. That's why digital cookers will let you program when to switch to warm, but never let you program a delayed start.

IMO the only advantage of a manual knob cooker is during a power outage, because it will turn back on once power is restored instead of a digital cooker that will stay off.

I feel it is worth the extra few bucks to get a digital because the power outage scenario is quite rare.
