[Amazon.com] Ryzen 7 2700 - $170

$10 more than the Black Friday deal and a very good price for a very good CPU. Pair it with a mobo in the $80 range and some decent RAM and you got an awesome budget build.
Can be overclocked in the 2700x range with a good cooler.

How does this compare to the R5 2600x for $145? I’ve been out of the loop for years on CPU’s

8 cores vs 6 cores.
65W vs 95W
4.1GHz vs 4.2GHz, but the 2700 overclocks better.

The two extra cores make it more versatile than the 2600x for non-gaming workloads. You can choose to overclock yourself which would essentially make it the 2700x. The stock cooler the 2700 comes with is also better than the 2600x.

Honestly you can't go wrong with either of the two processors

Wow, Keepa told me they had the 2700X on Amazon around 12:00 am PST this morning for $100.

Missed out.

Any cheap board will work with 2xxx. the real problem is if you want to upgrade later to a 3xxx or a 4xxx this is where you can plan ahead and get a Tomahawk/X470s etc. Not all of them are guaranteed to work well. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... =611478281 Two greens means you can use upto 3700x/3800x etc

$29 for a slightly better cooler not worth it imo, 2700 can still be OCed.

Do you think 2700 is better than 2700x with less power consumption and heat? They only $29 different.
I did build a new system in the summer for a friend with 2700. The stock cooler is very nice with LED and very quiet.

I would go for the 2700x if you already have a cooler, since you can flip the wraith prism for at least $35
