Amazon and Ebates.....

Hey everyone, I wasn't sure where else to post this. It seemed most appropriate here because it get the attention of exactly the right crowd.

Can someone tell me how to properly get cashback from Ebates for Amazon.ca purchases (especially deals found here). Ebates emailed me today stating that as of today I will not be allowed to receive Ebates for any amazon purchase I have;

a. found a promotion for anywhere online (apparently amazon tracks there links and if they are on a site like this one we will not receive ebates for them)
b. fill my cart with first, then close the browser, re-open with Ebates and go to amazon through Ebates with an already filled cart.

If that's true I feel like someone else in this forum would have already noticed it. It apparently only applies to Amazon because I got all my other Ebates over the last year from places like Indigo-Chapters, ebay, The Bay, Staples, Buytopia, Old Navy, Walmart, Groupon, The Source, Home Depot, Le Chateau, WagJag, Health Snap, Lowes came through with the above method or any other. But, Ebates (and I due to lack of diligence) missed a year's worth of amazon purchases totaling $24 in Ebates. They honored all of them then said moving forward no more ebates from amazon due to the above.

Did anyone else know about this?

Was the e-mail out of the blue, or did you contact them first?

You CANNOT add the item first and click the link from ebates. If you do, those items will NOT count most of time. The proper way is below and it applies to all rebates sites like Airmiles, Swagbucks, etc ....

(1) Login to Amazon with "Always sign in function"
(2) Login to ebates and click on the Merchandise link
(3) Add the items to the cart
(4) Checkout (Before you checkout, make sure ebate has the TripID for Amazon)
(5) If you need to place another order, clear the browser cookie and start over from step #1

Seems pretty common sense to me.
Why wouldn't you shop through their website? How do you think they get paid? Do you think Amazon, or any etailers would just hand ebates the money when they did nothing to generate the sale?if you find a deal here, login to ebates, go to amazon site, search for same item and check out.
Why is this even a question?

As mentioned, I contacted them first....technically....by requesting my missing Ebates for over 35 purchases on amazon.ca

RFD replaces amazon links with own referral links. This might be the reason why you didn't get your cashback

I would do this but some deals for some reason can only be found through the link on rfd. Example, https://www.amazon.ca/Pilot-BeGreen-Pre ... rds=pen%21 through rfd is $8.85. But, if you search for it it comes up as https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B001C8 ... UTF8&psc=1 Can you explain that?

Also, sorry for upsetting all of you looking for a deal. If I were posting a deal I would follow proper title etiquette (i.e. [Amazon.ca] Pilot BeGreen Precise V5 Rolling Ball Pens Box of 12 (RED ink) - $8.93). Please tell me where to move my post to and I will happily oblige.

It doesn't matter what types of search you perform. Lots of items have different sellers. You need to pick the one "Sold and Shipped By Amazon". Go to the offering list of each item, then you will be able to pick the right seller. Example of offering list :

Btw, never click on other links (located outside Amazon) before adding the item to your cart. You should do the search inside the Amazon website. If you have trouble to find the product from Amazon search, search the ASIN#, it will show up 100% of time.

Even you do it in proper way, there is one rule you may not notice from ebates. If you use Amazon gift card to pay, you won't qualify for rebate.

Then you properly do not place the order correctly. Before you submit the order, ensure the "TripID" shows up from your ebate account. Also, try to do it on your personal desktop/laptop and DON'T do it over the phone/tablet. If you do it on your office/work computer, I cannot guarantee it will work since some companies have placed a block on cookie transfer. If it still happens, I think the browser you are using has some problem. I'm currently using Google Chrome and I never encountered any problem.

got all kinds of ebates using amzn gcs (bought piles from sdm nov promo). you dont get it if you BUY gcs. Granteg its only 1-2%, not a big deal, and I sure wouldnt be asking them to honour if if I failed to follow the instructions. Pretty generous of them to pay out on transactions they didnt get paid for

I see they've removed the source now. GCR still has it. though the source is the one place thats been hit or miss on ever getting it. GCR has cut what they pay for ebay. With walmart gone altogether maybe cashback from major stores is on the way out

I'm not seeing using gift card prevents ebates on Amazon.

Yes, ebates requires "add to cart" within ebates session to qualify rebates.

Probably the easiest trick is "save for later".

1. Using PC/Mac/Amazon App or other browser to find Amazon deals and add to cart
2. Go to cart, and click "save for later" under the item. This step can also be done within ebates app.
3. Launch ebates app on smartphone, and then go to cart.
4. Find your item in "save for later" section, click it and go to the item page.
5. Re-add the item to cart, and check out as usual.
6. Enjoy the rebate.

In this way, you don't need to search within ebates session and dig the item among the search result.

No, last year I use ebates and my entire order was paid by gift card. I didn't get the rebate. When I email them, they point me out there is a rule that "No rebate while paying using gift card". Starting from that time, I have never used ebates on any of my Amazon purchase. Now Walmart is gone and I haven't used ebates for few months already.

Look at these : http://www.ebates.ca/help/exclusions-li ... sesqualify

Do all purchases qualify for Cash Back rewards?

Virtually every item you purchase through Ebates qualifies for Cash Back. We cannot, however, give Cash Back for taxes, shipping, or any portion of a purchase that is paid for with gift certificates or a store credit. Any purchase of products and services in which the transaction is substantially completed by telephone does not qualify for Cash Back. In addition, a few specific stores place minor restrictions on Cash Back eligibility. We do our best to maintain an up-to-date list of store-related exceptions on our website. Note that store exceptions change regularly and Ebates Canada reserves the right to cancel or delay Cash Back payments when affiliated stores alter their policies or refuse to pay Ebates Canada a commission.
