Amazon offering payment plans now?

Was searching for notebooks, for a gift for my grand daughter, and I noticed some of the Amazon offerings included the ability to pay X amount for 5 months, no fees or extra charges.
Is this relatively new?
I haven’t noticed this before.

Was going to say...No, it's not new...just not on every big ticket item. Basically what @Dhanushan said.

It's funny you mention that, I noticed the same thing the other day (last week?) for the first time looking at network equipment, but I don't see it anymore.

Looks like they're testing it off and on.

I was looking at a pressure washer yesterday which had monthly payments on it. Checked today monthly payments are gone

Used it about 18 months ago. Would use it again if the need arose. Thought it was a good deal.

It's item based not account based.
Only certain high value items have it.
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

I've done this many times now for nearly a year now. a mix of low and high value items.

- Fire HD 10
- iRobot (both of them)
- a couple of Ring cameras
- mattress
- echo dot

all fully paid except for the echo dot. this can be viewed at https://www.amazon.ca/manage-monthly-payments

I was eyeing for another Ring camera (the new one).. and I saw that it was in 5 monthly payments. but right now, I have a few returns (I still need to go to post office) and I noticed they took it off. I searched for my other wishlist items that I'm aligning for Prime Day (if that ever comes) and it's off. I no longer see it.

Coincidental? im not sure, but my gut feeling it is intentional and because of my returns.. I'll ship these items tomorrow and see if this get's updated and how soon.

Not sure if it’s just coincidence or not, but I never seen the instalment option before, and in fact I came across it shortly after I applied for and was approved for the Amazon credit card.
Probably coincidence.

It's also (seemingly) randomly available. I know it was showing for network equipment the other day (which I did not purchase, I was just browsing) but even if I access the same items from my browsing history the offer to use a payment plan is no longer there.

I doubt its from returns. I have never return anything on amazon and I lost the monthly payment option. It was still available to me like 2 days ago. Now don’t see it on all the items on my save list that was previously eligible.

I was eyeballing a camera with a 12 month payment plan. Didn't buy it and the monthly payment thing changed a few hours later! Now I barely see anything with that option, oh well. Still handy to have that option as a possibility.

How do they handle an item if you decide to return it and it's been used?

Edit:

Any return of a product purchased through this offer, and the amount of any resulting refund, will be subject to our standard return policy. The remaining balance of your purchase will be deducted from any refund.

That's fair, but what if I didnt open the box?
