I have been eyeing for this dash cam for couple months now. It seems to be the all time low according to ccc.

Seems like a solid deal and i was looking for a deal on this too.

But I ended getting the 70mai a800s + rear cam for $155 from alie since its on sale. I like 70mai since i have their previous version in my other car.

Now it's the waiting game

The reviews on the 70mai cameras look fairly decent. The only thing that bothers me about them is the fact that the ring where the lens is is not black, making them more visible from the outside.

Upvoted. Only $30 more than the front cam only version of the A129. This is a highly regarded dash cam and the price is surely going to soften give that the A139 has just been released.

What's the concensus for this? I'm seeing mixed reviews on Amazon about the dashcam freezing and not working properly.

Kind of the same. I'm reading lots of mixed reviews. It's kind of always in the "top X dashcams to buy" from /r/dashcam and dashcamtalk, but when looking at more long-term feedback, it does not appear to be as reliable as it seems :|

Why can’t car companies have built in dash cams, at least as an option .

I own the Thinkware FA200 dashcam, a good little cam with no screen (I don't need or want a screen due to the obstruction of view) and the inclusion of WiFi connectivity to your phone.

As a Thinkware device, it's solid, but I have a few pieces of advice:
(1) In the phone app, turn off the dashcam volume, the little lady in the device talks too much.
(2) Thinkware dashcams really prefer proprietary Thinkware microSD cards (the FA200 comes with one).

Regarding (2), due to rapid power cycling between on and off when you start your vehicle or turn your vehicle off and remove the keys, the cam may corrupt and reformat even high quality cards like the Samsung Endurance Pro and Sandisk Maximum Endurance. Use the Thinkware microSD cards and you will have zero issues.

My device came with an official Thinkware 16GB microSD card and it works well. It'll only store a couple of days of footage before recording over the oldest content, but that's good enough for now. The base model comes without a rear cam.

From what I'm reading, the OP dashcam is not super reliable, though it comes with all the perks (Screen + WiFi + Rear Cam). I went with reliability and so far I'm pleased, my solution is spartan but it works. Thank you to Mr. RFDer (John Doe) for the recommendation.

My older Viofo is from May 2018, I’m going to move it to the 2nd car. Hopefully 4K Duo lasts.

I have the non-pro A129 Duo and it's been great. It's hardwired and very good quality. Not regrets even at 1080 as there's minimal video "noise" - the video quality is very good.
I returned a Thinkware F70 that was atrocious because of video "noise" / compression - it couldn't make out license plates on parked cars in perfect conditions while going 30 km/h.

I've had two of the Viofo A129 pro duo (4K front, 1080 rear) with the HK3 hardwire kit for parking mode and Samsung Endurance 128 SD cards in both cars for the past year. Working fine in Winnipeg - summer and winter.

Some kits come with one CPL (Polarizing) filter - usually put on the front camera. I got a second CPL filter for the rear camera as well - as it was picking up some glare from the rear parcel shelf.

Some common issues you run into with all the units is picking up the license plate of the other car can be a challenge when the plate is dirty, the car is travelling in the opposite direction or it is at night. For parking mode the HK3 hardwire kit turns the camera off when the car battery gets to a preset voltage point - and it does not take long for that to happen in winter when the battery is already discharged due to short drives, the heater fan running, headlights on etc. They do sell battery packs that you can connect to get longer parking mode running time - if needed.

Here's the Thinkware FA200, small, out of the way, easy to install, rock solid reliable from community reports.

Image

Front Cam Only: https://www.amazon.ca/THINKWARE-Bundle- ... 07FP2JDYQ/ -- $149.99 CAD
Optional Rear Cam: https://www.amazon.ca/THINKWARE-Rear-Vi ... 07CVP93NY/ -- $69.99 CAD

Buying the two separately is somehow cheaper than buying the bundle.

On paper, this seems like a spartan camera (missing some gimmicks). Truth be told though, the most important feature is reliability, and connectivity (WiFi) to download the data. Some dash cams are known to fail without you knowing, on the premise that they're hands off until you need them. This thing rarely succumbs, so you can comfortably set it and forget it.

The lack of camera screen is a feature, as I find video screens distracting when I'm driving, and I want this thing to be small and forgettable until I need it.

My two cents. We all have our preferences.
