AMD motherboard advice

I am trying to build a new system and I need a bit of advice on what motherboard to go for please

I am pretty much settled on the Ryzen9 5950x chip - so I need a motherboard to pair with this.

Things I need:
Lots of SATA connections for SSD and Data drives
RAM capacity of 128gb+
Good amount of PCIe slots for extra cards

Things I dont care about:
wifi (Machine will always be ethernet)
audio - easy to throw an external soundcard/usb in it
lights :)

This machine will be used for computer graphics, editing and creating games in Unreal/Unity

any suggestions please?
Budget around $250 would be nice

thanks

Regarding ASUS boards:
The ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PRO fits the bill and I've purchased it on sale for about $250.

Alternatively, the ASUS TUF Gaming Plus (non-wifi) can be had for under $250. Canada Computers has it for $229 with the Wifi version for $235.

Go for the higher models of each brand like the Asus TUF/STRIX , Gigabyte Aorus etc etc. High models usually have beefier heatsinks on the power delivery area around the CPU socket.

Other useful features to consider is USB bios flashback. Just in case your motherboard does not come 5000series ready.

It sounds like you need a Threadripper system instead.

I'm very pleased with my newish mobo, the Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite (AMD Ryzen 3000/X570/ATX/PCIe4.0/DDR4/USB3.1/Realtek ALC1200/Front USB Type-C/RGB Fusion 2.0
All of my more recent builds have been with Gigabyte mobos. I paid $234 in July last year and I see it has gone up a bit since I bought it, or it was on sale when I bought it, don't recall. Now listed at $270. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07SVRZGMX/

Threadripper is dead. I wouldn't buy one unless it's being sold at a significant discount.

X570 /w SATA cards is the way to go imo.

Linus did a video on this 2 weeks ago

Threadripper upended the HEDT market when it released, but now it seems the more expensive Threadripper PRO is here to take over. Is AMD making a mistake, or is enthusiast HEDT simply obsolete?

AMD just proved they're not your friend

From Personal experience I'd stay away from Gigabyte. Buggy BIOS, middle of the road VRMs and poor support life. They're generally cheaper for a reason.
Their Aorus line is slightly better but still poor compared to Asus and MSI.

Not to mention their warranty experience is terrible.

What you mean it is dead? What happened?

I think hes referring to the news that the new generation of threadripper will come in OEM machines only. So it's effectively dead for the enthusiast/dyi market since you won't be able to buy the CPU or compatible motherboards.

I think the max amount of memory that can be supported by the 5950X is 128GB (I have one of those CPUs already in my personal machine).
If you need more RAM than that, you will need to step up to an HEDT platform.

It sounds like you're trying to go for pseudo workstation.
Asus Pro WS X570-ACE might be a good choice
ECC memory supported

2X U,2
