I already have a Platinum. Does this mean I can request a supplementary card for my wife free now (instead of paying $175)?

Good deal, but FYI - $699 annual fee.

And why in god's name would an additional platinum card be worth anything near $175?

The free platinum is a good benefit since it has its own PP and lounge pass membership. For example, if your spouse is flying by herself, she can use her own membership if she's the one holds supplementary card. You can also do this to your parent or adult children.

You get a $200 travel credit so it brings the net cost to $499. So $600 in points for $499, plus the lounge access perks, Gold status for Marriott, Hertz, Club Carlson (Radisson), Hilton and a few more.

Perks aren't close to as good as they used to be, but still useful for some.

Edit: Do not use referrals to apply, it will disqualify you from this offer.

The Amex platinum is a great card, I get many times more than the AF through lounge visits alone. Great for the person with upcoming trips or who is always in the sky.

Honestly the best card I have ever had in my life.

Couldn’t justify the $700 AF after the first year, especially since I have a few other AF cards.

I would highly recommend experiencing what this card can do for you even just for a year. Ie. Unlimited priority pass airport lounge access, concierge, priority lanes at airports, centurion lounge access, lots of cool promos like the free $200 duty free credit, free tickets to see moves before they are released, etc.

60,000 points was the welcome bonus using a referral link when I signed up, I used it for dollar value travel like an idiot, but if you want to get creative you can even use it to fly a leg in a premier first class product like the etihad first class apartments.

$200 credit is annually, so if you sign up today you can get it twice, once for 2019 and another time for 2020.

They've changed it so that you only receive one $200 credit per membership year. Ie. You would need to pay the AF next year to receive another credit.

It's not anymore. Annual = membership date, NOT as per calendar year
Information is wealth, but again, depends on what you're pursuing & what it's worth to you😎💡

Here is the source for this:
https://www.americanexpress.com/ca/en/b ... redit.html

As per terms and conditions:
"The $200 CAD Annual Travel Credit ....... Basic Cardmember is entitled to one (1) Annual Travel Credit each year based on Card membership anniversary date, towards a single travel booking of $200 or more, and will appear on your billing statement as “Platinum Annual Travel Credit”. If you cancel your travel booking after redeeming the Annual Travel Credit, you will not be able to use it again in the same year. You can only use one Travel Credit per booking."

This is great if you're on the fence and know you need a supplementary card.

First year is worth it because of all the free signup points, it's the 2nd year that the $499 net annual fee is harder to justify if you don't travel a lot.

Dumb question, but do purchases on the supplementary card count towards the $3000 minimum spend?

Thanks OP! No annual fee for one Supplementary Platinum Card for one year? Still need to pay $175 if I keep the supplementary card for the next year?

The term says it's free every year.
