[American Express] (Perkopolis) Amex Cobalt signup bonus of 40k points (2,500pts with $500 spend per month + 10X food & drinks)

As you may know, AMEX releases their signup bonus throughout the year but looks like they're upping to 40k from the regular 30k points. Definitely not the highest (I think 55k?), but better than none.

This is similar to the public website with the exception of:
- Earn 10X the points on eligible eats & drinks purchases (up to a maximum of 10,000 points)

Perkopolis code: CBLT2943

I signed up a month too early so missed out on this promotion, but to those who's looking to get this card lucky you! Definitely the highest earning cards for certain category (5x Food and Drinks, 3x streaming, etc).

There are a lot of resources on tips and tricks of maximizing points earning.

Please also refrain on advertising your referrals as mods may lock this thread! PM only :)

Details below:

With the American Express Cobalt® Card, Perkopolis members can earn a Welcome Bonus of up to 40,000 Membership Rewards® points. That’s up to $400 towards your next dinner out with friends!
- Earn 2,500 Membership Rewards® points for each monthly billing period in which you spend $500 in purchases on your Card. This could add up to 30,000 points in a year
- Earn 10X the points on eligible eats & drinks purchases (up to a maximum of 10,000 points)

Plus, enjoy access to special benefits such as Cobalt Perks3, The Hotel Collection, Mobile Device Insurance, American Express Experiences and more!

As a Cobalt Cardmember, you can earn points on all of your spend:

- Earn 5 points for every $1 spent at eligible restaurants, bars, grocery stores, and food delivery in Canada
- Earn 3 points for every $1 on eligible streaming subscriptions at select providers in Canada
- Earn 2 points for every $1 spent on eligible transit & gas purchases in Canada and eligible travel purchases
- Earn 1 point for every $1 in Card purchases everywhere else

Use your points to cover almost any purchases charged to your Card. Redeem 1,000 Membership Rewards points for $10 in statement credits towards any eligible purchase!

Fell asleep during the 50+k promotion but IDK if I should wait longer or settle for 40k.
Also while the code is posted, if I'm not actually perkopolis, would they claw back or do they even check?
Do you not have anything else to do rather than argue with strangers on the internet
Nope. That's why I'm on the internet arguing with strangers. If I had anything better to do I'd probably be doing it.

Nice 3rd thread @Yokokiki. And, posting this deal for others, even though you signed up a month ago with less points!

Maybe we will sign up for another Cobalt in 2024, keeping in mind this offer's timing if it returns :)

Cheers!

p.s. I think my 1st thread on RFD was also for a RFID wallet. lol

Not entirely the same situation but when I applied for the Amex Gold card with a targeted promotion through GCR, they ended up not approving my rebate because I didn't receive an invitation. Still got the points though

They even sent an eMail talking about how I likely got the GCR code through redflagdeals

This is a card for you to earn points to redeem for travel. If you want travel perks then apply for Plat.

Have you had success churning this card? Or are you planning to sign up with P2/3?

I contacted their support. Apparently my employer (a bank) blocks this offer.

Workperks has the same promo if you have that.

Question, can you use a referral code and still get the 40k points?

Yes, debating about signing up P2 next year, as we transfer points to Marriott Bonvoy and prefer points to go to P2's account. However, we don't want to have 2 Cobalt cards at the same time.

I think a few have been successful with repeat bonuses after a couple of years, however, YMMV.

The other thing that's a pain with the Cobalt is min spend required for 12 months to get complete bonus vs lump sum min spend in first 3 months, so it can be exhausting!

Its 5% cashback worldwide (in most countries, except some like Panama) on food and drinks. So basically 2.5% cb with the foreign transaction fee.

Already have the Roger's WE Mastercard, Scotia momentum infinite and plan on getting the Canadian Tire WE at some point.
Is this card worth replacing my existing cards? Or is it good simply for churning.

Is this true? I could have sworn i spent like a madman with it in Portugal and Spain last year and it only gave me 1x points for dining out.

This is the greated card as it's to me. I know many people know it as a credit card for grocery (5% points), but actually it's much more than that by

- First, buy GC at Sobeys/Safeway/Metro, so 5% points back extend to almost all your spending. Two examples, I once bought about $2,000 HomeDepot GC; the other is to buy prepaid Mastercard then used at Costco, the fee is about 2%, so you still ahve 3% for all Costco purchase.
- Second, as long as you travel by air, convert the AMEX points to Aeroplan points (1:1), and Aeroplan points can easily give you 1.3-1.4 cents/point whne book through Air Canada, sometimes can up to 2 cents/points. Therefore, the return of this card can get 7-8% easily and up to 10%.

Another fact, when AMEX launched this card at the beginning, there is no cap on grocery category. I know there are people got millions of AMEX points.
