I was more wondering how far I can stretch "eligible hotel" lol but they don't define it that well other than that you have to pay "a hotel" directly

Probably because they want you to actually pay the actual hotel/motel. I'm sure there are merchant codes which they scan against that we aren't able to see.

They specifically excluded short-term rentals, so I have a feeling Airbnb is not eligible...

P2 received on SCP but P1 didn't.

What's the definition of eligible hotel merchants?

Typical RFD fashion:

Amex: This is the terms and conditions.
RFDers: Can this be used on AirBnBs??? Which hotel can I go buy gift cards at???

Are people buying GCs to meet their new credit card reward spending requirements, and then sell their gift cards on kjiji etc at a discount?

I guess this won't work on a site like booking.com? I have travel to MTL in August but it's booked through there to a hotel.

I would assume based on the geographical location of the hotel the purchase of is made at.

It will work if you actually pay for the hotel at the hotel when you stay. It will not work if you prepay on a 3rd party site.

Makes sense, thankfully this is the case for me. Unfortunately didn't get this offer on my brand new platinum but did get it on the cobalt.

Jon Lai wrote: How would they know if it's from the website? It's probably charged by HQ.
Most of the time the charge will be at the particular hotel location in question and the merchant information should reflect that in the txns details.

Rats, that means the best we can do without travelling is to walk into a nearby hotel for a GC..

T&C says no third party booking…so if I were to book through AMEX travel (ie Fine hotel & resort program) I won’t be eligible? Would be sick to double dip on the $100USD on site credit + $50

If you are not using the BC offer, maybe you can purchase a hotel GC in BC and use it to pay at the same brand hotel in the Atlantic?
