Anita Mui biopic (now on Disney+)

Any thoughts on the girl they casted to play the late, great Anita Mui? Louis Koo apparently also playing a supporting role as one of Mui's closest friends.

Is this girl playing Anita in a biographical film? Expected release date?

My Cantonese is basic, but from what I heard, she doesn't have the skills background in a couple areas, so I'm not sure she can fill Anita's shoes.

Only thing they've hinted is that the movie is coming out this year. No release date yet. Louise Wong was just a model before she was casted as Anita Mui so playing Anita Mui, that's a big shoe to fill. Bill Kong, the producer of this film picked her because their background are similar.

Consider how much of the trailer is dubbed with Anita's original voice, not looking good. Looks like cash grab on nostalgia.

If that's the actress' real voice, then kudos.

Loved her in Drunken Master 2. Afaic she made that movie. Dunno who was really hankering for a biopic though. My interest was never so much in an entertainer's life rather than their artistic output. Political figures, sure, since they usually have some influence on history, but entertainers generally follow the template 'was poor-worked hard-got famous-died young' without fail. Unless its a comedic/exaggerated take, I just never saw there being much of a story in there to tell.
Bored...

Might as well cast Alvina Kong as Anita Mui. She does a killer Anita voice.

I checked the director and it's the same guy who did the Cold War films so basically we have HK ver of Michael Bay doing an Anita Mui biopic.
I agree with another poster that it looks like a cash grab on nostalgia.

lol they'll take liberties in this like what the Ip Man films did for Ip man.
I post, you decide.

Cold War had explosions?! I always thought the two Cold War films were mostly back and forth banter.

Shhh...don't say that too loudly. Some people don't like to hear that Ip wasn't actually a Chinese Superman. ;)

Turns out Anita is screening in Toronto after all. It premieres this Friday at Markham VIP and Yonge/Dundas.

Extended directors cut coming out in episodic form only on Disney+. Not very confident that Disney will make it available in North America. I can't even watch Korean drama "Snowdrop" unless I use a VPN. 🤦

All 5 episodes of the director's cut suddenly popped up on Disney+ today.

That's because Disney released it a month after its initial run ended. And it was coming out weekly too. 🤦

Too bad Disney is not offering the Dolby Vision/Dolby Atmos version cuz when I saw this in the theatre, it looked and sounded incredible.
