[Amazon Canada] Anki Overdrive - F&F edition $99 - NOW $69

I picked up a used regular set of these and the game is a tonne of fun. Had been looking to add cars and track pieces to my collection to expand the functionality (but they are expensive for the add-ons). The regular set has been on sale on Amazon for $129 for a week or so but I wasn't ready to bite just yet. Today, I noticed that the upgraded Fast & Furious edition is an even bigger sale. It is normally more expensive than the regular edition.

This game is great for kids (4+) and adults (really cool party entertainment).

Price has dropped today (Dec 5) on Amazon - now fluctuating around $69.

Can you add regular cars to this?
Also do the original game modes work the same?

Other than the 2 cars, what is the difference?

Yes, you can add the 'regular' cars to this. The other physical difference is that one of the straight pieces has a section that can temporarily disable your opponent as well as the addition of the 12 guard rails. The main difference is in the app (it is a different app than the original) as it includes different modes as well as the F&F themes.

Controls are via phone app only? Looks amazing, but not sure if it’s easy for a 4yr old to get the hang of things.

Most 4 year olds are more adept at phone interaction than adults!

This looks interesting! Slot cars...with no slots? What's the principle of operation here? Magnetism? $100 is more than I'm willing to spend on finding out, but would love for someone to explain how this works.

The cars have infrared cameras on their underside. The track pieces have invisible printed info that the cameras read. After you assemble the track (easy - they attach with magnets) the cars take a slow drive around the track to figure it out. Then they line up at the start/finish line (tracks have to make a complete loop) and you use your phone or tablet to control them. You only control acceleration/braking and changing lanes - the AI in the cars takes care of turning the corners (that is what they 'learned' on the first drive around the track). Everything is controlled in the app (iOS and Android). There are different types of races and some involve weapons. Watch some YouTube videos to see what is involved.
It is truly awesome. A tonne of fun for young and old. Expansion kits are expensive though (so if you want to add extra track pieces it can really add up) - they seem to be way cheaper in the US so that might be an option (even with the import fees and shipping from Amazon I was able to get 3 expansion kits and 1 car and 1 truck for less than the price listed here in Canada for 2 expansion kits).
