anti tamper co2 smoke detectors (tenants may be disabling the existing ones)

I have first alert hard wired ones at the moment but i believe my tenants have been disconnecting them and smoking pot in my basement apt.
Which ones would you recommend i install to know if they disconnect it or tamper with it?
I was looking at nest alert protect but they are 149 each is there any others out there people recommend?

Personally I'd be installing smoke alarms and carbon monoxide (CO) alarms.

Detectors are not typically used in a residential setting.

Most people use the terms detector and alarm interchangeably.
While you are correct that they are different, I don't think the average person knows that.
Hell, most stores label them as detectors when they're technically alarms.

Tell them to not disconnect the alarms cause pot smoking won't set them off. And tell them you don't want them smoking anything in the unit. I'd put this in writing and via text/email (so you have a copy).

There isn't really anything you can do about it but at least you've addressed the issue if things do go sideways. Ideally, add this to the lease agreement before they move in next time.

Unless it's a condo, I'm pretty sure that non-smoking clauses in leases are illegal. It can't be enforced

Oh I know, but it's always better to include these clauses than not:

"In any of these eviction applications, it will still be easier to evict the tenant if there was a no smoking clause in the lease that the tenant agreed to in advance, so I would always recommend that landlords insert this clause into any lease if it matters to them. The clause should include any kind of smoking. Also make sure you prohibit smoking from any balcony, patio, or common areas of the building."

^^^ agree ^^^

Legal or not, I rather include that as a clause. At least, the tenant is aware and should not dis-connect.

You can't stop people from smoking in your house or rental unit? 1st I've heard of that, Ontario thing?

Amazing. Ontario doesn't even allow collection of damage deposits. Talk about some honky tonk rules for landlords.

Doesn't matter, with the price of rents in the GTA landlord comes way out ahead.
