Antigen test to travel to USA?

So we just flew from Toronto to Florida. Did our Covid tests the day before we flew at Rexall.
Self checked in and no one asked to see the tests?! Who supposed to ask us?
Was it supposed to be the airline (self checked in) or custom (nexus)?

Airline's responsibility

But technically speaking you likely completed the attestation during self check in

Each time I have flown it is the airline that has checked.

The attestation didn’t require us to upload the test results? Just our vaccine QR codes?
Did I skip something?

I printed out a form but didn’t have to hand it to anyone.

Think of it as declaring you have no weapons, drugs or even saying you have less than 10k cash etc

You maybe checked or maybe not

Actually. We didn’t do the test after we checked in.
Are we not supposed to?!
I just assume we need to cancel check in if tests come back positive?!

Airlines are supposed to validate test results but seems in recent weeks they've been spotty at it but it might depend who you're flying with. Up until last January I couldn't do online check in for any destination that required COVID documentation and had to go in-person so an agent could validate but seems more recently people have been doing online check-ins more frequently.

For entry into the United States you need a negative rapid antigen test taken one day before.

With Air Canada the app always asks me to upload it when I check-in and the agent at the airport confirms they got it.

I guess for other airlines it's probably similar but some are more lax than others.

If they really wanted to, the immigration officer could ask you for it, but they have never asked me.

I went to Vegas last week. Had my preflight Covid test ready to show whatever authority asked for it. The airline didn't ask for it and US Customs didn't ask for it either. Of course if I didn't have one I probably would have been asked.

When I came back to Canada I was randomly selected to show my proof of Covid test to the airline person at the gate in Vegas. Wasn't asked by CBSA when I got back to Canada but was randomly selected for testing. That took less than 5 minutes and I was on my way to my next flight home.

I also did self check in and flew with WestJet. I came prepared and was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to fly to Vegas and back.

You only need a negative test if flying to the US. Not applicable at land borders where proof of vaccine is the only requirement to entering US from Canada.

Normally I check in right at 24 hours before I fly to pick the seats I like.
If I have to upload my negative results, that would probably mean a lot closer to 12 hours..

You can check in and select seats and then later go back and upload the negative test.

Just clarifying because of the post title and the fact I’m constantly seeing others that are not clear of the differences.

they probably forget to check sometimes because 100% of people are usually clear to travel if/when checked because they're absolutely screwed if they dont have that documentation

I'm planning on going to florida in April. What is the cheapest test I need for travel to USA ? How long does it take to get the results ? What happens if I get a false positive and can't fly ? Do I loose my entire flight + hotel that I prepaid or is this refunded ?

I flew quite a bit in the last months/weeks and Air Canada has always checked the covid test results when leaving USA to CAN, i.e. they checked at the airport directly, before going to the baggage check-in line, they have a "document check" lines and you have to show your negative test. If you don't have any, you will not pass that checkpoint.
I was there at the 32$ price error at dell.ca day AND at the 150$ off price error at fs.ca

probably costco at 16.99 ...results in 15-30minutes. and you're much more likley to get false negative than false positive on RAT tests. I mean, you can always take another RAT or PCR test to confirm..but false negatives are much more common on RAT than false positive

If you test positive and can't fly... if you have no insurance, then yes, you lose non refundable payments you've made.

If you test positive, you can drive across the border and fly to your destination that way.

I will be driving to US through land border and fully vaccinated. Do I need a Covid test to enter US and return to Canada?
