Any budget laptops not made in China?

Does anyone know of any budget Windows laptops for less than $600 that is not made in China? It is okay if the parts are from China because that is really hard to avoid. I'm guessing HP might be one, but I haven't heard great things about the reliability of their budget models.

Would ASUS or Acer brands be made in Taiwan? What about the Dell Inspiron 3000 or 5000 series?

The reason that electronics are cheap and affordable, they are made/assembled in cheap labour countries, China is main one.

Dell and Lenovo products are made in China.

With that budget, I strongly suggest ‘refurbished ‘ Lenovo Thinkpad series T. It’s assembled in China but for business use, very durable.

Thanks, I know that the older refurbished Thinkpads were from before they were sold to a Chinese company, but I'd still prefer a brand that's not Lenovo or made in China.

Would the Surface Go 2 be made in China? I'm okay with increasing my budget to $700 if there's nothing in the lower price range.

I'm guessing the Samsung laptops may not be made in China, but I rarely see that brand advertised.

Can you spend ANY amount of money to have a laptop not made in China (that isn't garbage)? The highest quality laptops (Apple, Surface, business laptops, etc) are all made in China.

I'm starting to think that Samsung and some Japanese brands like Toshiba may be the only brands that have the majority or all of their laptops manufactured outside of China. It's possible that some other brands may have certain models made in countries outside of China, but those will be hard to find.

Every manufacturer pretty much gets Foxconn to manufacture and assemble, Foxconn is Taiwanese but facilities in China.

Reason why China, supply chain of everything works perfectly. Components, raw materials, everything is integrated into their manufacturing and assembly process.

The largest notebook assembler and engineering company is Quanta, followed by Compal, then a bunch others like Pegatron (Asus). Foxconn is a pretty small player.

Toshiba sold its consumer PC business to Sharp. Foxconn owns Sharp. It’s manufactured in the same place as every other notebook in the world.

Thanks for the info. Looks like it's really hard to find a laptop not made in China.

You have to go back to the stone ages for that. Lenovo bought the PC business of IBM in 2005.

And even China is moving up the value/value-added chain, sending labour-intensive work to other countries. Maybe your next laptop will come from VietNam or India, assembled with components from,, wait for it.... China.

Apple is setup shop to manufacture their products in VN. More of power/political move, away from China.

Doubt the OP is going to find a budget laptop coming from a Vietnam Apple factory. :)

Assemble at low cost. Even more components than before are supplied by China (which had muscled out Taiwan)

TAIPEI -- China now boasts more Apple suppliers than any other country, a sign that Washington's attempt to untangle U.S. and Chinese supply chains has had little impact on the world's most valuable tech company.

Of Apple's top 200 suppliers in 2020, 51 were based in China, including Hong Kong, according to a Nikkei Asia analysis of the Apple Supplier List released last week, up from 42 in 2018 and knocking Taiwan out of the top spot for the first time. Apple did not release data for 2019.

Chinese suppliers have also helped Apple build production capacity in other Asian countries as part of the company's strategy to diversify its supply chain.

The Apple Supplier List covers 98% of the company's spending on materials, manufacturing and assembly for the preceding fiscal year. Though it does not disclose procurement values for each company, the report serves as a barometer of Apple's reliance on suppliers from different parts of the world. The report has been released almost every year since 2013.

Apple is known for its rigorous quality standards, and the rise of Chinese suppliers speaks to the country's growing manufacturing and tech capabilities, as well as to its competitive prices.

"Most Chinese suppliers have very similar approaches," one Apple supply chain manager told Nikkei Asia. The Chinese suppliers win orders by offering very low prices to Apple that non-China suppliers find hard to imagine, the manager said. "They are willing to take low-margin businesses that other suppliers are reluctant to pick up. This way, they could gradually level up by working with Apple and can later bid for more business the next time."

Getting into Apple's supply chain, the manager added, is a "golden ticket" for suppliers to become the best in the world.

China-based suppliers are also rapidly helping Apple increase production outside the country.

The number of Apple suppliers in Vietnam grew to 21 last year from 14 in 2018, when the trade war began. Seven of those 21 are owned by Chinese- or Hong Kong-based companies. These include AirPods assemblers Luxshare Precision Industry and GoerTek, which both have been producing the wireless earbuds in Vietnam since early 2020.

Most Apple-certified factories in Vietnam are in the north of the country, a growing cluster for consumer electronics gadgets.

Thanks, I figured LG or Samsung might be my best bet now that most companies have been ruled out. My budget Samsung tablet is not made in China. I wish Samsung would be bigger players in the laptop industry and start releasing budget laptops not made in China. Spending maybe $1000 or whatever the price is on a LG Gram as a last resort is not too bad I guess.

The way Samsung handles their appliances, I strongly doubt it.
