I've also only seen them at around $1000, Costco seemed pretty common and maybe occasionally at Canadian Tire. Sadly I only saw these deals about 6-8 months after I bought mine direct and it was more like $1600 (but delivered). Note that these are really heavy, each frame is 80lbs + pump so pick up or large SUV is probably required.
I do love mine, I swap wheels, tires and brake pads very frequently for taking my car to the track so the saved time was worth it for me. I also use it for oil changes and fixing friends and families cars and it gives me more access than jack + jack stands. When I do wheel change overs for family it also takes about 15 minutes, it's super quick to lift the car, zip off the lugs with an impact gun, quick brake inspection and then mount summer/winter tires with torque wrench.
Also I really recommend you measure the lift points on all vehicles you plan to work on, using the SLX-5000 I could use it on 1998 BMW 323is, 2017 BMW M2 and ~2005 Honda Civic. I used wood extensions and then their extension frames so I could also lift 2000 BMW 528i, 2015 Subaru Impreza and was just able to also use it on a 2015 Subaru Forester (it's good for tire changes and brakes but only lifts it a little bit).
