Any issues leaving a car in the US, while doing a sub trip from main trip?

I'm thinking about doing a road trip to the southern US in a few weeks and in the preliminary planning stages.

While there, I'm also thinking about doing a secondary trip, either a cruise, or flight to Asia/South America for a few weeks since flights are generally much cheaper there (depends on times/dates/costs as to what if anything I do). I would leave my car most likely with friends in south Florida or south Texas. After which I will return and continue with the road trip. Probably 4-8 weeks total away from home here.

Would there be any issue with this? A Canadian with no ties to US beyond the typical B2 visa or whatever? I know customs are particular about leaving things in the US, but would it be a problem if temporarily if I'm no longer in the country? I know "don't mention it" is an option, but I don't want to get into a situation where my car is there, but for whatever reason I'm not allowed back in. My lifestyle and travel habits are pretty irregular eg: "Um I got laid off 2 years ago so decided to go around the world a few times. Is that not something people do?", and I go to secondary more often than not, so I'm looking to play by the rules.

Looked online, could only find stuff about snowbirds leaving a car at their winter place.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong this.
It would be the same scenario for someone driving to the US and parking their car somewhere and flying internationally.

Have an answer to the question “when are you returning to Canada” and you will be fine. They are trained to be wary of people who are crossing to not go back, otherwise you will have no problems and shouldn’t even get many questions if you give short direct answers.

The US is probably more worried about whether you are trying to stay in the US, as opposed to the car for customs/tax reasons. As long as you have a proper explanation with some proof of your plans, it's probably reasonable. It really is no different than someone parking and flying from a US airport.

OP - would your friends have any need to drive the car? That could cause a problem if they did and they were not on the contract as alternative drivers.

It's fine. Most people who drive down for cruises do this. Also, lots of snowbirds leave their car in Florida when they fly back for a short time.

What contract? If you're referring to insurance, the only alternate drivers that need to be listed are those that live in the same household. There would be no issues
