Anybody renewing their Ontario license plate stickers?

Any of you renewing your license plate stickers, if it's coming up? Service Ontario (here) says we do not have to renew at this time (as well as driver's license, health card, etc.). It feels weird not renewing it. Sooner than later, I know I'm going to forget to do it and end up with a fine, once they will make it mandatory, again. I don't know whether to trust the government or renew anyways.

Thoughts?

Thread Summary
All Ontarians must renew their health card, driver's licence, and licence plate stickers by Feb 28, 2022. Reiterating once again, those who did not renew during the temporary exemption will pay for previous years including the current year.

Unless you cant afford it now get it done so you dont forget later. As far as I'm concerned I'm still paying all bills and anything else as I normally would. i dont want them to have any reason to screw me later with extra charges or bad credit etc

Well said. I think I will renew it, just in case.

I have to renew both of our cars for May, I've been meaning to do it for the last few weeks but I keep forgetting. Will get the paperwork tonight. I'd rather have the order in on-line than having to go into a Service Ontario Center after this over because its passed my required date.

Ontario is behind the times. We can do all car registry stuff online in AB since it's privatized. They just mail you a sticker.

you're behind. I've always done mine online, for Ontario, for the past 11 years

Seems like even if you do it online it's gonna be delayed, but you can still do it, as indicated. I started buying 2yr ones now though, so mine is April but 2021. It's honestly much better to always do 2yrs unless you really can't afford to. Because, the price never goes down so by buying 2yr stickers you both get longer before you have to renew again and you potentially save money if they put the price up in the second year. Of course even if you did 2yr but renewed last in 2018, you'd be up for renewal this year anyway.

Nice that they are giving people a pass on renewing but try to explain that to some brainless police officers who might not know this and give you a ticket (or at least pull you over and waste 30m of your time) anyway  I would renew online and hope your sticker gets to you sooner rather than later, just to avoid police harassing you.

Been renewing online for many years. They just mail you the sticker in a week. Now it may take 2+ weeks. But you can print the confirmation page out as temporary. I believe it gives you 30 days of validation in case sticker is lost in transit.

Adding a sticker to the license plate is truly an archaic method.
Considering everything is in a central database that a police officer can quickly scan for a status check, there's really no need for anything more.

I think that if the use of stickers was abandoned, wouldn't the police officer have to run a status check on every single vehicle on the road to see if the plate was valid. Wouldn't it be easier to just glance at the plate and know immediately if the plate registration was still valid. For the most part this can be done by just looking at the color of the sticker.

Police vehicles in ON are equipped with a automatic license plate scanner, that can scan thousands of plates an hour.

Anyone renew their driver's license recently? I had to in late February, and it still hasn't showed up. My temporary license expires in a few weeks. The temporary license says to visit Service Ontario if you haven't received it just before the expiry, but that was before all the social distancing orders and closures.

I purchased two stickers on Mar 20 and received them after a week and a half.

As mentioned from other RFD’ers, for plate sticker renewal: Online order is the best way to go.
I’ve been doing this many years now, I receive my stickers 1-2 weeks after ordering.
The only time I need to visit a Service Ontario Office is to get a picture taken for my License card and Health card. And thankfully it’s every 5 years only.

I placed an online order last Tuesday because my stickers expire May 2020.

Have a buddy who was pulled over saying he got calls that he was racing. Hand on his holster the whole time. Buddys mom and young brother were in the car as well getting threatened nonstop.
You think an immigrant mom with their kid in there is gonna let her son do that! LOL
Anyways as they had nothing. They charged buddy with expired sticker/licence, even though he said service Ontario stated it doesn't need to be renewed.
Im sure he will fight it and file complaint about the harrasment.

Did he have tinted windows? I've read Police in that area like to pull over cars with very dark tinted windows.
