Anyone belong to Goodlife Fitness?

Am thinking about possibly joining a fitness club with a friend of mine and somebody we know suggested Goodlife. Am wondering if anyone has any reviews or comments(good or bad).

Thanks in advance.

BTW Am looking at the Victoria Terrace location in Scarborough if anyone has any location specific comments. :)

I'm a member in Mississauga (south Common). Nice gym, kept up to date. Lots of cardio. They really push the services i.e. personal training/consulting, which for some people can be a good thing. Been in business a long time, lots of locations, so I dont think you can go wrong.
I've been a member (occasionally an employee) at many other gyms

I've been a member for 5 years now... excellent facilities and well worth the $23/mth i pay. I used to go to the downtown one but it's way too crowded... i'm always at the Victoria Terrance one now (5-6/week). Excellent service and free movie rentals :) ) Some 'lookers' work there as well but don't tell my gf ;) Maybe i'll bump into you there... i'm the lone tall asian ;)

How did you get 23/month? Any chance a new user could get in on that deal?

long time ago... i had to pay some initiation fee (not too much) and was on a corporate plan. it's gone up since then... i used to play $18/mth. I don't mind though... they are improving their facilities.

family memberships are really good... i also pay for my gf and her bro... she pays 24/mth and he pays 22/mth... with like $79 initiation... very cheap.

solid deal

anything under 30 for a gym a month is good

i've got that now too..i'm paying 24 i think? except you dont' really get anything out of your membership unless you actually.like go..i'm in such a slump

i'll head out after work today.

going to victerrace prolly friday ..mabbe..prolly ..after 5 ish..hrm.i was a lone asian guy there on sunday after 11ish..i saw one other asian there..mabbe u sleepymod?

its a nice gym

of all the one's i've tried: extreme/balleys/community centre clubs

GOODLIFE is the best..friendly staff..clean place..not too 'intimadting' too.

extreme is full of ridiculously huge guys/girls who benchpress 200 pounds with their finger..meh..not really for me.and its damn exp..too busy

balley's..friend had a rough time their with their admin work..got messed up with a contract etc. REAL bad cust. service really bad..too busy not that clean.

community centre isn't bad..lotsa old ppl usually..smaller place tho'.less machines..not as clean at all..cheaper.

goodlife is like good median in b/w everything. DEFINATELY recommend it.

erm.get a family plan if possible.if you have kids (friends even) or look into corporate plans.

good luck!

dont know about that. i have a friend who is a member, and one time brought me (a non-member) into goodlife for a trial workout. the reception people were really rude, telling me they dont offer that kind of service and giving my friend an attitude for bringing someone in.

well, i guess they just lost a potential member!

I'm at goodlife , main reason why is because there's one in the same location as my workplace. Costs me 50/month , kinda expensive but sometimes the locker room for the guys area can get nasty especially around the winter season , the floor's always wet from all the snow , lucky i live close to the gym too so sometimes i skip the shower and go home to shower.

Used to work at Extreme and a good thing that I got employee discount for personal training session at $25 (regular is $75).

Yes, there are lots of big guys but there are also nice toned gals there as well which is an inspiration and gets me into a working out mood.

It can get very packed during the busy hour of 4-8.

I've been to a community centre, and the Athletic Club and still like Extreme bc of the atmosphere, design of the place, and of course the ppl/employees.

vic terrace goodlife is NOT cramped ... very roomy .. and can't beat the $17/month membership rate.

I have been going to Goodlife for years. The good thing is that you can go to any Goodlife in Canada. So sometimes when I travel I will go to different locations.

I think it depends on location. Some Goodlife Clubs are nice and state of the art, some aren't kept up as nice.

I would go to one or more (if available) in your area and ask for a free tour.

I recently joined and then recently left GoodLife fitness when they suckered me in with no up-front-fee and a confusing worded rate that made it sound like you'd be paying about $20 per month (biweekly) of course when you do the math it is actually about $45 with tax, which still is a decent rate for my area.

But I left the club shortly after joining since although they did a free assessment to tell me what muscles and things I should be working on (to counteract problems I have from sitting at a computer most of the time) they refused to provide me with the information on what exercises and equipment I should focus on to correct my posture and physical problems for free (as two clubs I formerly belonged to do) or for a reasonable cost. They only tried to sell me a personal training package of 3 personal training sessions per week over 12 months for a total of $9166.56 when you add it up and factor in the tax. Who has that kind of money? If I had that kind of money to throw away I'd buy my own equipment and hire a personal trainer to come to my house, sheesh! I was willing to spend a couple hundred dollars to have them setup a program for me to follow on my own for a few months but they said they only offered the nearly $10,000 program spanning over 12 months and had no other option available. They had the nerve to say I didn't have to pay it all up front and could not comprehend that this figure was astronomically above my surplus income even though I stated this multiple times. This insanity is why I am now looking for another fitness club instead.

The club itself seemed to have decent equipment although some of the knobs were missing off the tops of the pins to adjust the machine, but nothing that made them unsafe to use. A also attended a couple of yoga classes while I was there. One week we had a substitute teacher, since the normal one was absent, she was alright though. The next week the regular teacher showed up late and class began more than 15 minutes and was not extended to make up for the lost time even though the room was free after the session for us to do so. She didn't play any music (the first one did) and spoke really softly so was hard to hear. I guess she wasn't that bad but really I wasn't that impressed either.

Basically, that is my experience. If you already have a fitness program setup and know how to use the equipment and what exercises you need to use or you can afford to spend about $9000+ on top of the club membership fee to hire a personal trainer then I guess it might be a good place for you. However, if you are a beginner who needs someone to take a few hours of their time to setup a basic simple workout program for you so you can actually achieve your goals then I do not recommend this place.

I think this really depends on the location you visit. Clean is not a word I would use to described the Good Life locations that I have used. I used to have to take an antihistamine before working out because I am allergic to dust and the gym was covered in dust. I had never seen such big dust bunnies. I put one in a complaint to management and never got a response. It was a newer location.

The location I currently use is also dusty, dirty and stinks. I wouldn't dare use the showers as I'm told the floors are slimy. The locker room smells damp and slimy. I don't even let my feet in socks touch the floor. I don't know what men's locker rooms smell like, but as a woman, I am not used to this. I have heard other members complaining about how dirty it has gotten.

I also find that they don't maintain their equipment and repairs are very slow (over 5 months for one elliptical in a small woman's gym). I also find that their trainers don't seem to know what they are doing and teach people bad habits like throwing weights down, not wiping equipment etc.

I only stay because I pay a low fee but it is hard to get motivated to go there.

I don't mind the juice heads. Let me enumerate:
- One the reason why they're so huge is because they know how to PROPERLY workout. Given that I refuse to pay for personal training sessions, I just look at the juice heads and copy what they do.

-Also alot of them have provided me with sound advice when it comes to working out, which has helped alot.

-Plus when I'm about to do some heavy benching and there's a high risk that my body can give out under the immense weight, I'd like to have a powerful juicehead spotting me as oppose to a skinny guy.

FYI, I'm not a juicehead. Im toned and muscular, but not huge.

I'm currently at Extreme Fitness at Yonge & Eglinton and there's so how many 20+ year old babes. Gotta love it.

If you're looking for cheaper memberships, i suggest browsing in Craigslist or Kijiji.
