Anyone ever have trouble using their Simplii debit card?

I use Simplii as a backup bank. I have a debit card which I have used a few times at stores without any issues. But since it isn't a Visa debit, I keep having a feeling that not all stores and shops would take it. Anyone ever have their Simplii debit rejected while trying to pay?

Visa Debit has nothing to do with whether a Canadian brick and mortar store will accept your card. Even cards that have Visa Debit use Interac to process in-person purchases. Visa Debit is used to process online purchases.

Ah okay. So there would be no reason for me to worry about my card getting rejected because it isn't like a conventional debit card?

Ah okay so Visa Debit really only gives the benefit of online shopping. Other than that Visa debit and Simplii debit are the same?

I don't know in what way it isn't a "conventional" debit card.

Simplii debit IS a conventional (i.e. INTERAC) debit card .... Visa debit cards are the unconventional ones since they have Visa debit features which are only used online in Canada or in person in some other countries.

How is the Simplii debit card not "conventional"? Any debit card that's conventional is an Interac debit card and Simplii's debit cards are conventional debit cards as it's on the Interac network. Prepaid credit cards that are tied to a bank account like PC Money Account's MasterCard would be an unconventional debit card as it's really a prepaid credit card.

Funny thing is… co-branded debit cards are now pretty conventional! Tides have turned!

I was able to use my Simplii Debit Card - on a recent trip to Montreal. I was able to use that debit card with no issues (however, Simplii Financial isn't available for Quebec residents. This was the case when the former PC Financial brand (which was powered by CIBC) can't offer their chequing/savings accounts to Quebec resdients (however, there was an unknown "loophole" that allowed Quebec residents to open those accounts) back in the days).

As in the case of (the now-renamed) Simplii, the old PC Financial clients can use their debit cards in Quebec (whether if they shop at a Loblaws-owned store in Quebec or not).
