Short story:

- button destroyed (finger game strong)
- dealer wants $1k plus applicable taxes to replace the whole TCM
- lol @ paying $1130 to basically replace a piece of plastic

Anyone replace theirs diy?

You can still press the ignition without the button? Stick your finger in to push the inner switch?

You forget that driving a Corolla for 20 years is the paved way to true baller status

FYI new Corollas and Civics have push button start now so it's nothing to do with OP's car specifically.

You think that's expensive.
Try replacing the red selector knob on the bottom right hand portion of a Ferrari's steering wheel...oh wait you can't replace that $100 (cnc aluminum knob); because Ferrari only sells the entire steering wheel!

Is the part even listed anywhere like rockauto.

I bet they are BSing about replacing the TCM but will probably need to recode the TCM to the new button. Some are simple some have a chip inside to ensure the whole system is secure.

There's no replacement button available anywhere. Closest I could find was a start/stop module (including button) for an XJ but it doesn't look like that would work. Some cheap Chinese options as well but I don't want to go that route

Dealer quoted $700 for the part and another $300 to install and program the TCM.

Maybe cheaper to install remote start that doesn't require you to push the start on/off botton before driving off.

So was it an attempt to start or stop that sealed the deal and sent your button to heavens?
