Anyone have recent experiences with Movie Theatres now open?

Anyone have a recent experience? I expected them to be slammed but the cineplex I drive by every day on the way home from work looks like a ghost town.

Even at 50% capacity the parking lot is empty. Are people hesitant to go still? I for one am itching to go but haven't had a chance due to work

I cannot wait to get back to the Cineplex Theater, being double vac'd I'm not worried at all.

Costco has the passes available in store, purchased two today as I always like to have ready for spur of the moment outings.

I'm a little concerned that streaming is going to continue to eat at them. Look what happened with black widow.

I have both vaccines but I'm still worried about the new variants, and about the trashy people that are out and about everywhere these days now that most folks are home. I'll stay in for now.

Me too. Rather watch at home for now. Cheaper and the snacks are better. And of course there's beer.

Last year, I went back to the theatre to see Christopher Nolan's movie "Tenet" a couple of times on the huge IMAX screen during the pandemic. This summer, something has always come up where I still haven't had a chance to see anything new on the big screen yet. However, the minute advanced tickets go on sale for Disney/Marvel's SHANG-CHI which opens on Labour Day weekend, I'm defintiely grabbing IMAX tickets for that one. Smiling Face With Sunglasses

We went and saw Black Widow in theater. We are all double vaccinated except for our youngest who's still not of age.
Theater was pretty dead, lots of space in the theater itself, and it wasn't crowded in general. But we went at an off time when you wouldn't see a lot of crowds anyway.
Streaming is going to kill the theater, go now so your kids can tell their kids about theaters and get laughed at for being old.
c'mon get happy!

Not sure if theatres will be the same. Given all the focus on in home platforms.

Not the best example since no one went to see this, but I went to a Tuesday evening show for Snake Eyes, and besides my buddy and me there were only two other people there. I have to believe there'll be bigger crowds for the tentpoles like The Suicide Squad and Free Guy.

Free Guy, maybe? And that's a big maybe... Can Ryan Reynolds carry this movie? Its no Matrix or Deadpool. What this movie has going for it is that its not being released on streaming service at the same time...
Suicide Squad 2? I don't know... Its being released on HBO Max at the same time. Is this another Black Widow where there is a crowd for the first few days that dries up?

Streaming releases on the same time as theatre releases are killing theatres.

It's only for this year. The cinemas chains already gave in to studios demands and now studios can release their films to their online platforms much faster than before the pandemic.

75" TV, full surround sound with theatre style seats. Unlimited popcorn, chips and beer (as the pantry allows). Pause for bathroom breaks, variable lighting as well. Why ever go to a theatre again?

It's just not the movie, its everything around it. You can build an amusement park in your backyard, but without the crowd it gets tiring quickly enough.

Similar to blockbuster video in the old days, it was walking the row upon row looking at all the options till you picked one.

I have a 65" now upgrading to a 75 to 85 inch shortly.....still does not measure up to a theater for me. It doesnt add up to block buster for that matter....

Similar to audio enthusiasts, vinyl still has a quality of sound warmer than digital, crackling dust be damed.

Not saying I'm right.....just saying what's right for me.
