Anyone setup a sms server?

I have Zoneminder manage my security cameras. Been working well, but I want it to send alerts to my phone if it catches something.

I was thinking sms alerts might be the way to go (or mabe email)

Anyone setup a sms server before? What's the cheapest provider that also supports picture text.

I have never setup an SMS server, didn't think it was even possible but I can recommend Blue Iris security camera software. You can get alerts with an image, opening it will show a video clip. You can configure how long it will be and it's not loaded or stored on your phone, the app connects to your computer to play videos.

If you want simple messages Pushover may be a solution, no images though.

You just need to email the cell phone number @ specific mobile gateway. For example,

For SMS, [email protected]
For MMS, [email protected]
Not all cell providers offer this, though I believe most do

What mobile provider in Canada doesn't have a SMS or MMS gateway? That wiki probably isn't accurate or complete. I think Videotron is the only carrier that may not have a gateway in Canada.

You just have to Google your specific carrier to find the correct gateway email address.

Bell, Telus, Rogers and Freedom all have gateways, and their flanker brands use their parent gateways. MVNOs should use their carrier's gateway as well, so Speakout should use Rogers, etc.

Bingo... Another one that doesn't use its parent gateway is Zoomer (not sure about SpeakOut). Also you use the terms "carrier" and "provider" somewhat interchangeable which is confusing. All I'm saying is don't assume ALL providers have this setup, as some clearly don't

I came across how to automate monitoring my servers and hikvision cams last year. It might be helpful to look into prometheus and grafana. I also setup my local email server so all alerts and critical alarms I am getting going to one place. I am using the default apple mail app to fetch the emails from my local mail server

Slightly off topic, but do you by chance know the gateway for incoming MMS for Zoomer.

I recall many months back I was trying to setup an MMS alert. To find the gateway, I sent an MMS from my Zoomer number to my email.
The format I got was this [email protected] . However, when I sent an email back to this address, it bounced with an MX record not found error.

I had success with sending an email to [email protected]. But it sends an email notification as text, and then you have to reply 'Yes' to that text to read the rest of the email. So it really does not work like a typical MMS.

Sorry, never bothered to use it and now left Zoomer. I would ask their support, but they were pretty clueless technically as far as I remember...
