Anyone try the Digital Entertainment Coupon "Book"

Hi

I use to always wait till the entertainment books would go on clearance and pick them up for like $5-$10 with free shipping.

It use to come with a digital version but it was not very good and most stores would not be in it.

I now see as of 2021 they got rid of the print books and is now digital only with $25 for a yearly membership.

I was always able to get value from the print books when I paid like max $10 (probably like $30-$50). Now that is is going to be $25 that gets a lot harder and that is only if the digital now is as good as the book

I think it is stupid they don't allow you to see what coupons are available so I have no clue if they improved their offerings or if it is just as bad as when it was a freebie with the book.

I see they do have a 30 day trial but I don't really want to go through the work of having to cancel after 30 days...not at this time anyways.

That book really went downhill. Used to have a few good places but the last 10 years or so its either hole in the walls that have 0 customers and will likely end up closing, or its places that have readily available coupons free on their website or app so no point in paying for them.

Most if not all of the really good landmark restaurants in Vancouver have closed up so this once really awesome find is not so great. JMHO

P.S. This was long before the virus.

This

Back in the day it was good value … but about 10 years ago there seemed to be a shortage of decent restaurants … and more fast food joints.

So we stopped buying.

What it was great for tho was dry cleaning coupons … when we were working full time in Ottawa … we would use every dry cleaning coupon in the book … there was like 6 or a dozen for each of the major players in the city … Browns, Goodfellow, Hillary, etc

And as all these places had drop off storefronts thru the whole region … it was easy to drop off / pick up near home or our offices.

There were even a few dry cleaners that would pick up & drop off at home!

Dry cleaning coupons / discounts alone paid for that book multiple times over the years

Used to pick one up when the price dropped below $10. It would be easy to recoup whatever I paid for the book after using a couple of deals.
Agreed, the number of coupons dropped significantly over the years. Even worse, the coupons that were in the book would often be rejected by the restaurants saying they requested to be removed. I imagine even more restaurants would be refusing them since the pandemic. Not worth the hassle for me anymore.

I agree with most people that the book has gone really down hill, though it was never worth the sticker price of $50.

Last year when I got it for like $5 it was still a pretty good deal, I think I saved about $50-$100 as I went on a trip and there and made an effort to eat at those ones. The ones we went too were actually pretty good as well (one had the best Indian food I ever had).

With that said it still is a gamble each year so the max I think I would pay is $10,

Now with digital it seems like these days are gone, sounds like no one here has tried the digital version only. I am very hesitant as if it just their old digital version that was free wit the book then it is hugely over priced.

Used to use a ton of coupons when the book was good. Bought 2 in more recent years at 10 or 15 bucks and didn't use a single coupon either year! You see a restaurant you like and it's restricted to a specific restaurant in the chain in Burlington or Oshawa when you live in Toronto!

Bumping this thread to see if others have feedback.
It's too bad that they don't let you preview the offers before signing up for a membership.
Are there more deals on the Entertainment online membership than what is available on Fido Xtra's Dining Deals?

That Fido Xtra thing was so confusing i didn't even try to do it. It was not fill access to the entertainment site i don't think.

My two cents. The entertainment book is great depending on the city. Sometimes, selections are really sparce. However, if you travel a lot, often through big cities, it could still be worth it.

As for Fido Xtra, it used to be great. However, they have replaced diningdeals with bonusdeals. In dinging deals, you got 2 codes that could be used for any category (entertainment, food, oil changes, etc). Bonusdeals is similar, however, they restrict you to sub-sets of categories. This month, you can only use your codes on sandwich shops. I guess diningdeals was too popular and Fido needed to find a way to make it less appealing before removing and saying no body wanted it.

Just took a fresh new look at OP's link with an open mind. I was gone in seconds when I saw White Castle as one of the coupon options.
Were is the Toronto APP? Plus also, one that is charging in Canadian funds. How about a list of places IN TORONTO that the coupons would be good for?

If the Entertainment 'Book' is no longer as good as it once was, are there any other coupon 'books' that are better?

For actual entertainment, there's Attractions Ontario, & the coupons are free, but nothing for restaurants: https://attractionsontario.ca/coupons/

I have saved so much money through hotel bookings.. you do have to compare their pricing with other websites (e.g Expedia) but majority of the hotels are much cheaper than anywhere else. Normally I go on Expedia to search for what I like/get all the info, then go to entertainment’s travel website to book lol

I like the Venngo app. You need to have access through a work perk though. They used to do individual memberships but haven't figured out the link for that in a while.
