[Apple] Apple refurbished 10.5" iPad Pro 64 GB WiFi - $619

Looking for the new 2019 iPad Air 10.5" WiFi 64 GB? Well, that goes for $649 retail and $619 education. However, you can get the 2017 iPad Pro 10.5" WiFi 64 GB for $619 from the Apple refurbished store. Original pricing in Canada was $869 in 2017 (although it's now $729 new in the Apple Store until it sells out).

https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/product/F ... DW2CL/A-CA

I have a thread on the iPad Air here but here are some of the differences:

iPad Air better than iPad Pro
A12 SoC (Geekbench 11600) on the Air vs. A10X SoC (Geekbench 9600) on the Pro
Bluetooth 5.0 on the Air vs. Bluetooth 4.2 on the Pro
Gigabit class LTE on the Air (for the cellular model) vs. LTE Advanced on the Pro
No camera bump on the Air vs. camera bump on the Pro

iPad Pro better than iPad Air
4 GB RAM in the Pro vs. 3 GB RAM in the Air
Quad speakers (two on each side in landscape mode) on the Pro vs. two speakers on the Air, both on the same side in landscape mode
12 MP rear camera on the Pro with 4K recording with optical stabilization and Focus Pixels vs. 8 MP on the Air with smaller aperture and limited to 1080p for video, no optical image stabilization or Focus Pixels
Rear camera flash on the Pro, which can double as a flashlight vs. no flash on Air
ProMotion on the Pro, which provides 120 Hz for smooth scrolling, auto adjustable frame rate, and lower latency for drawing. vs. fixed 60 Hz on the Air

Otherwise the Air and Pro are basically identical and can use the same accessories like cases and the Apple Smart Keyboard. BTW, the Apple Smart Keyboard has 18 mm key spacing. Although that is smaller than a MacBook keyboard, it qualifies as a full-sized keyboard.

In my house opinion, it is better to buy an open box one from Ebay.

https://www.ebay.ca/itm/APPLE-iPAD-PRO- ... 8f436ba832

Sorry for the messy link.

The ebay one comes with 11 months apple care and you may purchase apple care + from apple store, which is not available for apple refurbish unit.

On ebay 15% off day, it will be around 525 after tax. The only thing short, is a fancy, shinny iPad box (Apple refurbish iPad does not come original package too, only a white one, perfect for funeral ).

I think I can live with it for $100+ in my pocket.

I heard great stuff about Bluetooth 5.0 too, this is a good read about it https://www.howtogeek.com/343718/whats- ... tooth-5.0/
Bottom line is that the Pro is in my opinion a better iPad than the new iPad Air but costs less.

Basically, Apple took the iPad Pro, dumbed it down but put in a new SoC, and now sells it as an Air at a lower retail price point. However, the refurb pricing of the Pro makes it even cheaper.

They actually looked pretty much exactly the same. As mentioned, they share the same accessories.

That’s a used product, and is not eligible for credit card extended warranty.

Also, Apple has no-questions-asked returns.

Haven’t seen a 15% everything coupon in ages, and most sellers charge tax. If I get one I’ll wait for Space Grey in the Apple store, don’t care much for white.

Space Grey was available yesterday, but is gone today. It might come back though.

EDIT:

You're right about the tax too:

"Sales Tax will be added at checkout for Canadian customers"

So basically, that eBay listed is a used device with no box for $569 plus tax. So all of $50 + tax cheaper than the Apple refurb with full 1-year warranty and extended 2nd year of warranty from some credit cards.

They charged only federal tax for BC. If you have no patient for 15% off, there is a 10% off coupon till the end of March. The final price with be 550 after tax vs 700 after tax from apple store.

It is all about personal preference. For me, even 550 is a bit too much, I am waiting to purchase one under 500 for my parents. I think it is quite possible after Ipad air 3 hit the shelf.

13% HST in ON though, and seller told me he’s not getting any Space Grey unfortunately. What’s the 10% coupon you mentioned?

I agree. And if you went with a brand new iPad Pro, they start at $999. It’s a different price point.

I bought this one for my mom for $549USD shipped right to her house in USA and didn’t have to pay the tax Grinning Face With Smiling Eyes.

Pretty good deal for what is essentially a brand new iPad Pro with full warranty.

Even if you compare to some of the other refurb iPad models, this one seems to be where the value is at.

Yeah, the 11" iPad Pro is a better model (aside from the fact it doesn't have a headphone jack) but it STARTS at $999 as you say, or $939 edu. Plus the Smart Keyboard for it is $239 at all the retail stores, with no cheap sellers on Amazon.

I bought the 10.5" iPad Pro refurb from Apple, but I also found a well-rated 3rd party Canadian seller (celltronic) on Amazon.ca that was selling the Smart Keyboard for the 10.5" model for CAD$149.99. So I bought that and it makes for a great combo. The price at the retail stores for this keyboard is $219.

Combined, it would have been $462 more (tax-in) to get the combination of the 11" iPad Pro with keyboard than it was to get the 10.5" iPad Pro with keyboard. Unfortunately, Apple isn't selling the 11" iPad Pro on the refurb store yet.

Is this the same model that Costco.ca is selling for 697.97? Costco's model is MQDX2CLA. I can't find what model the Apple site is selling refurbished.

Same model, different colour.

I believe the silver is MQDW2CL/A. However, the model number for the refurb silver on Apple's site is FQDW2CL/A.

BTW, London Drugs also has it for $699.99. The Apple Store (physical store) sells it for $729 new. CDW.ca still has it for $869. though. Walmart has it for $789, and BestBuy.ca has it for $799.99.

Thank you! Where did you find the model number?

Wow that pricing is all over the place.

FYI gaming on iPad Pro 10.5 with the A10X chip can be very hot, and its battery life is nowhere near 10 hours as it advertised :( Well just for the A12 I think buying an Air is worth it, cause it’s awesome on the new XR/XS phones! But the trade off is the 120hz screen and quad speakers. I actually have turned off the 120hz mode most of the time as I found the battery life is much better in normal 60hz mode.
