Is this a good deal? Been looking for one for the wife. She would just be doing basic stuff with it. Reading recipes, maybe some videos. Nothing intense.

Not sure if 6th Gen still goes on sale or is even in stock, but a brand new one used to go on sale for ~$330 (Costco and Staples) which is a better buy.

Unless you absolutely need an iPad right now, you're better off waiting for a 6th or 7th Gen sale.

Any idea the last time that happened?

Agreed. We're also expecting an update by the end of the year with A12.

This $299 is not a hot deal unless you need one right now.

Costco had new 7th Gen for $347 during Black Friday.
Apple had refurbished 6th Gen for $329 in September.
Staples had new 6th Gen for $333 in July.

I got it for my mom for Mother's Day and have been helping her set it up. From my experience so far it's pretty snappy with everything most people would use an iPad for (e.g. video streaming, browsing the web, games, etc). Unless you're doing serious photo editing or graphic design work, I don't see a need for the latest one. Apple will likely also release at least one more iOS update for it.

You might get a better deal on a newer model if you wait until the end of the year, but my logic is that you can always resell this in the future should you want more power. I was looking at the eBay sold listings for this and they all averaged this price, and these were for used 5th gen iPads without the warranty from Apple.

This is just my two cents. I usually go for the latest and greatest, but with an iPad... I don't see it as much of a necessity.

In your wife's case, yes. I have the same iPad bought brand new for $340 from Walmart in 2018. It got the lastest iPadOS 13 and now my youngest kid took it. I picked up an iPad Mini 5 for me a few days ago.

correct. That's the one I bought in July. Works fantastic. Now I need one with cell data connection.

The 5th Gen is at the end of its life. I have one and the keyboard is already laggy, as IOS devices are just before they are dropped. I would definitely put in 100$ to get an extra couple years of useful life.

Does Apple ship via Canada Post?
Generally no. Last couple products I got were Fedex (from US) and UPS (within GTA)
