Interested in getting an iPad but can't decide between getting this 2018 iPad Pro model, getting the iPad Air 4, or spending a few hundred more and getting the new M1 iPad Pro. What are people's thoughts on getting this older model, is it still worth it and how many more years of support would it get?

I typically assume 4-5 years of support for an iPad. This model is already almost 3 years old, it probably makes more sense to go for the Air. The M1 version is expensive and unless you really need a certain feature, it's overkill.

What do you plan on using it for?

Some drawing together with Apple Pencil 2, some note taking, and watching media.

2018 iPad Pro will be more than sufficient then. It's better than the Air 4 as it has 120Hz screen, a better GPU, flash on the camera, Face ID, and a bigger battery.

If you don't do any computing heavy tasks, you won't feel the difference between this or the 2020 iPad Pro or the new 2021 M1 iPad Pro.

It'll be a more than capable device for another 4-6 years+.

Last year I would have bought the iPad Pro 2018 from BestBuy. This year...its $290 between a new product with a much faster chip, new wireless, and 128GB instead of 64GB, 8GB ram instead of 4GB. I'd definitely go M1 iPad Pro for the price difference.

The Pro iPads will have much longer longevity than 4-5 years. This device is still blazing fast.

Other than storage, it's all upgrade.

My 1st Gen mini is out of date for years, recently all MS apps cannot login - OneDrive, OneNote, etc. ... so my experience taught me: buy the latest and highest config as you can afford.

Won't be a huge performance jump, it's bigger and better display though. But you'll be losing a lot of storage.

Air 2 club! Still going strong with light browsing and youtube. Gaming wise it is definitely showing it's age.
But, no need to upgrade unless they are doing more with the iPad than just slapping M1/future M series chips in them.

Exactly, still debating if I should just add another $400 for an M1 iPad pro.... don't need the performance, but tempting...

Damn 650 for this would have been excellent. Seems out of stock now though.
