It's been on some Android TVs for months. I've had it ever since I got my Sony X900H two months ago.

Is there anything worth watching there? I don't use it even on my Apple TV (device).

I like Ted Lasso, for example.

The app was never available on streaming boxes running Android TV, including the Shield, until yesterday.

Edit: I have a Bell Streamer running Android TV 9 and the app is not in the Play Store. I guess it is limited to the Shield streaming box for now.

Cool news. Hoping the Apple app is available on older Sony Android TVs like the 700D, 900E, and 900F.

I had a chance to load the Apple TV app on a Shield 2017. I watched the first few minutes of John Wick 3 off iTunes and the judder was quite noticeable. I assume it's because Android TV and/or the app do not support auto frame rate switching. I watched the same few minutes on a 1st gen Apple TV 4K box and did not notice any judder.

Using on a newer Shield Pro and no judder no issues so far. Quite happy it works

Did you play a movie from iTunes?

Maybe it just doesn't work well on a Shield 2017 or your TV does a much better job of 3:2 pulldown. Either way, I'm sticking with my Apple TV and putting the Shield back in its box for now.

Yup, directly from an iTunes purchase. I actually bought a Chromecast with Google TV device recently to hold me over until the shield got an Apple TV app, and I’m happy to be able to retire that device to a relative since the Shield’s apple playback works just as well.

TV is a 2018 Vizio P with game mode on 100% of the time (seems to solve any micro stutters, judders, desync issues over the years)

I'm using an LG OLED C7 which doesn't seem to have 3:2 pulldown issues but may be it does. I'm happy using my Apple TV since I don't need the Shield to stream and I use a Win10 HTPC for media files.

so happy that's on my Shield.

I have a TV+ account, but it was such a pain to watch any content. I literally tether my iPad to my TV to watch content via a USB-C to HDMI adapter. It was easier for me to torrent the content, dump it on my NAS instead and watch it through my Shield. Now I don't have to do this.
