Apple watch glass repair

My friend have an Apple Watch Series 4 40mm, the screen got a bit of crack after dropping on the floor, honest it is still working fine with the cracked screen but not sure if it is the long term solution. Didn't know how much does it cost for Apple to repair but assume it is just too expensive. I'v saw some ads on Kijiji and got a quote of around $185 after shipping for repair the glass. Just trying to see from other's experience on RFD: 1. How much does it usually cost for repair? 2. Is it worth it if it cost around $200 for repair from non-Apple shop or should I just sell the watch and buy a new one? 3. Is it usually safe to go online route, I do not know any store in Ottawa offer this for reasonable price.

Personally, I would have Apple perform the service for any product as long as the product is worth repairing.
At those prices, it's definitely not worth repairing at Apple. They want $389 for a series 4 aluminum GPS model. Ouch.

Better off just buying a new Watch SE. And if buying new, maybe just wait until the fall to get a closeout model instead.

You may want to check out one of the contractors Apple (and Dell and Lenovo) use for repairs, who have been in the news the past couple of days: CSAT.

Let's just say that it's not what you would expect when comparing CSAT to an Apple store.

Thanks all, looks like there is no easy solutions, the Apple quoted price seems to be more expensive than what the Watch worth.
Just wondering if there is a market selling Apple watch with the crack in the glass.

Some people do buy cosmetically broken i-devices to restore and sell if they have the expertise. It is do-able. Relevant video:

I personally love Apple products but not the watch. It's just not something I need or want.

I don't have an Apple Watch. Thanks for the suggestion because I know other people who have the watch and may have need of their service one day.

Actually CSAT is one you want to avoid :) . And it's with any Apple product.

tl;dr - CSAT = horrible working environment + low pay + quantity over quality
