For anyone that has installed this router, could you run a speed test? When I do so, the upload starts out ok, then dies completely and tells me that there is a socket error (Wired lan connection)

How, doesn't it have to be in stock for them to PM
If you walk in with the flyer they won't check stock and honor the price match. This has been my experience in the past.

I didn't have any luck with the PM. The associates said they do not price match during the Black Friday week.

The price on the Asus through Staples though expired yesterday. It was a 3 day sale.

With the staples sale over, is this router still worth buying at 179.99 from Best Buy? I already have the 68u and would use this to set up AiMesh. Or should I just spend a bit more and invest in a new mesh system. Thanks for the input

I think it's still a good buy at $180. You could also wait for a boxing week sale too. Since the price dropped to $150 at Staples, I could see it being the same price again for boxing day/week.

I think a new mesh system is going to cost more than $180 and would not be compatible with your existing 68u.

huh, thanks. I'm with Telus, and the UL starts at about 30, then quickly drops off to 0 with that error. It should be 150 or so, and has to be something with the router.

Is the router running the latest firmware?

Yes, updated as soon as it started. All the monitoring QoS options are turned off, and the only other change I did was change the router internal address and manually assign a dozen DHCP internal ip addresses.
I highly doubt it's computer related, as I had never seen this in the years before my router change.

The only other thing I can suggest is returning the router to the factory defaults and then run the speed test with minimal changes to the factory settings.

Have you tried different browsers on the machine? Different devices on the network?

Good point. Fails in Firefox, passes in Chrome and edge. Better position to figure this out now. Thanks.

+1, unless you’re wirelessly moving (not streaming) whole Blu-ray files all over your house several times a day, faster isn’t necessary, reach is. Also, historically draft tech for routers treat customers as beta testers, always buy mature if you want stability.

Set mine up yesterday and meshed my 68U, our house/garage/backyard is blanketed now. I did have to install an intermediate Merlin fw, as the latest for 68U was too big a jump from my old Merlin and wouldn’t stick. After that, the AIMesh process was super easy, put the 68U near the 86U and a couple of clicks.
I just read that Merlin doesn't support AI Mesh. Did you switch back to ASUS fw?
