Avoid Questrade and don't let them take advantage of your money

Guys I do want to recommend how excellent the customer service at Questrade ("QT") is, however I can't because they SUCK.

On July 12 Monday, I made a PAD (Pre Authorized Debit) from my RBC USD account to Questrade TFSA account. It says 2-3 business days (I swear it was 2-3 business at least when I placed the transfer order), so I left it for processing.

On July 13 Tuesday afternoon, I opened the website online chat with QT and checking where my fund is. The rep said it would arrive today, and no later than tomorrow (Wednesday). I said ok.

On July 15 Thursday, I opened the website online chat with QT and checking where my fund is, again. The rep suddenly told me the processing period is 3-4 business days (they silently updated it!) and both the day QT receives the funds and the day the fund become available DO NOT CCOUNT! Meaning the so-called 3-4 processing days start on Tuesday (WTF?) and the funds will only become available after the "3-4" days. I'm like ???? but had to accept it since I made this very bad decision to use QT. So the fund will only be available to trade on next Monday.

Only July 19, I still don't see the fund in my account. I called QT customer service and they told me the fund is not available because I didn't update my SIN. WTH? I swear NO ONE has ever informed me throughout the entire account-opening and transfer process that I need to update my SIN. Isn't this just amazing?

Now I lost the investment window...and I strongly believe that Questrade is using my fund to make investment during this transfer period and randomly give some excuses to hold your funds, which is UNACCEPTABLE and DISHONEST.

So...don't make the same mistake and just find some decent platform for your stock trading.

What investment window? The markets are not exactly happy the last few days...

Exactly, I am happy because the market dips, so I can buy stock now. Isn't it how it works?

And if it drops even more before your account is funded - will you be thanking Questrade for delaying your trade? :)

This is the most hilarious thread we've had in a while. Always makes me wonder what the Robinhood forums are like down in the US...

I thank Questrade for nothing...it's about service level they can provide - no further comments if you accept this is the service we deserve to have

We have 7 accounts with them, since 2014. Had some issues, but none that made me think of them as “UNACCEPTABLE and DISHONEST” :) At least you were able to call in, unlike many earlier this year:
Brokers, notably the big bank-owned firms, have been unable to handle the volume of phone calls from clients. Long waits are common and some callers are being cut off before speaking to anyone. Who are all these people calling a brokerage, where low commissions are made economically possible by providing services primarily online?

Yup, I expect same posts there if they did not get your fund transferred as promised. Glad I get to see people's expectation on their service level. Merci

It’s probably because you’re transferring much less than the OP, so Questrade didn’t bother “using your funds to make investment during this transfer period” 🤪

Thank you so much! This just let me understand your perspective that the brokers have improved from THAT poor level to where it is now, and I'm just considered asking too much - haha.

Better yet, “ Don’t ascribe to malice what can be plainly explained by incompetence” :) The level of service has dropped everywhere, guess working from home while walking the dog doesn’t make it easy to answer the calls from unhappy customers.. :)

I try to time funding my QT like it's a stock in itself. Sending 500 here, 500 there as I get paid. Only thing I've been buying is AMC/GME on the dip lately. Heck I'll buy it on a rip. I know the true value of my shares.

Another angle to look it, is them controlling my stock market gambling. Lock the gun and the ammunition separately to avoid quick rash decisions lol.
