Avoiding BA Avios expiry?

Couldn't find a good existing thread to ask this in, sorry.

My Avios are expiring by the end of July. I have RBC Rewards to transfer over to Avios but no Avion CC currently so transfer doesn't look to be possible. Any suggestions for keeping my account active and saving my Avios stash?

I guess I could jump on the Avion 35k offer which would open up the transfer route. Any other suggestions? Have not been keeping up with CC info during the pandemic, very much out of the loop.

Thanks for helpful suggestions, particularly if they don't involve unnecessary spending.Grinning Face With Smiling Eyes

Two best ways IMO would be:
1) Sign up for a new RBC Avion (or even Avios) card and get the SUB!
2) Product switch your RBC Rewards card to an Avion card, do the transfer, then downgrade if you want

Other ways:
1) Transfer some Marriot Bonvoy points to Avios
2) Transfer some Amex MR points to Avios
3) Buy 1k Avios for US$53
4) Transfer 1k Avios to someone else for US$45
5) Not sure it works in Canada, but you could buy something via their e-store

eRewards Surveys. It's a bit annoying because it sends survey notifications in your email, but just do it once or twice, and you get free Avios. Then you can cancel your account after, or continue it and just answer them when you need a free activity.

I do the same with Asking Canadians for Aeroplan as I transfer what I need from Amex but just in case I don't want to transfer any at that time, but want my account active, I do this. I switch the reward to Petro Canada and HBC Rewards to keep these active as well.

In addition to the great ideas already noted, if you have an HSBC Credit Card, you can convert HSBC Rewards to BA Avios too.

If you don't have an HSBC card, this probably doesn't help. You won't get the points in time to help you this month.

Ended up converting 1k Amex MR to Avios at 1:1. May yet apply for Avion but wasn't sure I'd get the points credited in time and AFAIK can't transfer from R+ to Avion.

Do have an HSBC Rewards card but minimum transfer is 25k HSBC to 10k Avios. Decent point cost acquisition at 1.25 CPM but don't really need the miles, just wanted to keep them from expiring at lowest cost. Didn't feel like spending $125 of cashable rewards, converting to uncashable miles I have no current use for.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

In the past you couldn't, but now you should be able to. You can transfer points back and forth between any RBC Rewards accounts (Avion or otherwise), at least I was able to the last time I had an RBC Rewards+ card.
