This laptop is the same as the MSI GS65, but in white. 144hz screen, 256gb of SSD storage, and 16gb ram.

Note that to upgrade the SSD, the entire motherboard needs to be removed (the motherboard is flipped so that the SSD is facing the keyboard).

Edit: It's a 1070 max-q 8gb

Basically 1600 CAD plus any additional taxes or fees on top of that price for an older top of the line laptop. I wouldn’t call it a cold deal but Lenovo y740 with 2070 was around $2000 without any risk of duty and Ebates anywhere from 6-12%.

Yeah that's correct. My final price is $1471USD duties and taxes in (BH lets you prepay duties and taxes), minus $100 for the rebate so $1805 CAD taxes included in BC. This laptop does have a few advantages compared to y740, namely battery life.

Not the hottest deal, but maybe good for a daily driver, if only it wasn't bright white.

This is not "Not the hottest deal", with all the hassle and outdated hardware it's rather cold.

Are people actually expecting battery life on a gaming notebook?

I've always been of the camp: "Does it have a battery? Yes"

Well, I personally am a fan of a well-balanced notebook. I use an x1 extreme (slightly smaller battery, 82wh vs 80wh), and I get 8 hours of battery life. This way, I can use the same laptop for gaming and for work. If you have no need for mobility, a good battery is pointless though.
