Nokia 2.2 - 3GB / 32GB Unlocked Smartphone - $79.99USD ($108.99CAD)

Deal Link:
Price:
108.99
Retailer:
B&H Photo
Entry level phone with Android One, 3GB ram, microSD slot, and removable battery but no USB-C.

It is showing me $8.10 USD shipping to Ontario + $11.40 USD taxes & duties (with the prepaid option) which gives a total of $99.49 USD / $135.56 CAD.

Free shipping to Canada for orders over $99 USD so it might be worth it to add-on a $20-ish USD item for $12 more instead of paying $8.10 for shipping.

Took a look on the side for some options. If you want to stick with this phone but don't want to pay shipping but want to hit the threshold, you can buy one of these SD cards alongside it:
$19.99 for any of these 128gb sd cards
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... _500x.html
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... _card.html
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... osdxc.html
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... elect.html

$22.99 for a higher performing card
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... _sdxc.html

$24.99 for a sandisk extreme 128gb
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... _card.html

Other option is just one of the other phones that's on sale if you don't want to buy another card:
$109.99 Moto Z XT1650 64GB Smartphone (Unlocked, Black)
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... phone.html

$109.99 Xiaomi Redmi 8A Dual-SIM 32GB Smartphone (Unlocked, Midnight Black)
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/ ... html/specs

A comparison of the 3 phones if you want to see how much more phone you get for another $22:

edit: realised that pricewise after tax + brokerage, the moto z is comparable to the z3 play deal earlier in the year

Thanks for doing the extra leg work! Just want to point out that the 3rd phone in your comparison link is actually for the Moto X4 that is also $129.99 and not the Xiaomi.

Here are my thoughts on the all the phones... would love to know what everyone else think:

The Moto Z has the best hardware of the bunch by a mile but it is going on 4 years old (and as you pointed out the Z3 play was about the same price earlier). Another major con is that it is likely stuck at Android 8 and also, pretty much all the mod cases are discontinued.
The Moto X4 has the next highest ppi (but smallest screen of the bunch), has usb c, and Android One but most expensive of the bunch at $129.99.
The Xiaomi is the newest of the bunch with the biggest screen, biggest battery, dual sim, usb-c. But has the least amount of ram with 2GB (I personally think 2 is fine but a lot of people do not).

Personally, the Xiaomi is the most compelling alternative to the Nokia... but it would still be around $50 CAD more when it's all said and done which is not an insignificant jump (for me anyway) when looking at at $130 phone to begin with (closer to $65 difference if one assumes that both will need a $20 sd card to supplement the 32 GB storage)

Tough decision between the 3. It's kind of like pick your poison, least of 3 evils scenario. I would probably rule out the Nokia right off the hop. The Xiaomi has dual-sim and a big battery, but everything else is ghetto. The Moto has absolute horrible battery life. But it's only $110 for a SD820 and 4 GB Ram. I guess if I had to pick one, the Moto wins. It has usable specs, and unless you're a heavy user, the battery should get you through a work day.

I might grab two of the moto phones for my parents.... should meet their needs for the next couple of years with NFC.

Android 8 with those specs should do fine for them.

Thanks OP!
Everyone has cool signatures with the stuffs they own listed... I'm in!!!

I was going to say the same...Android 8 is not the end of the world. I have active phones stuck on Android 7 performing just fine. The Moto will be fine for people who are recreational users, and not on their phone all day long.

Surprisingly, they have one of the best security and OS updates policies of all Android manufacturers.

Ordered. My son's girlfriend needs a phone. I had thought of giving her one of my old phone. But I don't think most of my older phones work with freedom mobile, and the one I know does work has dropping damage.

When my Pixel 3a bites the dust or software updates end, I will look into Nokia as they have pretty affordable options with guaranteed OS updates up to 2 years which is reasonable given the price range Nokia covers. In fact I was just about to buy the Nokia 4.2 before taking advantage of the Pixel 3a BF sale at $399 CAD.
Koodo $34 50 GB
