Back again...Avion 50% conversion to BA Avios

Deal Link:
Expiry:
July 15, 2015
A little later than usual this year, but, the 50% conversion rate from Royal Bank (RBC) Avion to British Airways (BA) Avios is back again and runs from now until Jul/15/2015. Though the fuel surcharges are pricy on BA, I do find that the booking hotels is becoming more useful using my Avios points.

====================================================================================

Special British Airways Executive Club offer for RBC Avion® cardholders+! Convert your RBC Rewards points into Avios and receive 50% more◊. Offer valid from June 1, 2015 to July 15, 2015. Convert your points today!

RBC Avion cardholders and clients who hold other eligible RBC Royal Bank products or services that earn RBC Rewards points†, have the option of converting their RBC Rewards points to Avios◊. As a member of the British Airways Executive Club they can spend them on a range of rewards, including flights with BA and their oneworld® partners, flight upgrades, hotel accommodation and car rental¤.

You must be a member of the British Airways Executive Club‡ in order to convert your points. For enrolment information, visit British Airways online at www.ba.com/executiveclub (opens new window).

I wish I could transfer in the other direction. I haven't found my Avios points particularly useful (hence why I cancelled my Avios card years ago)

Couldn't you use your BA points on AA or other partner airlines?

Now would be the time to transfer aeroplan to avois and to BA. Has anyone had experience doing this? Is it beneficial or best to stick with aeroplan.

If you have Amex MR, transfer 1000. Otherwise, buy the minimum with cash, renews your account for another 2 years.

Can you keep them alive for 2 or 3 more yrs (whatever their inactive period is) by transferring the minimum # of pts into BA avios account from amex MR pts (think it's a minimum 1k MR pts) or RBC avion pts? If you don't have an amex gold MR card, you can apply now and transfer pts in next month.

I have 300,000 BA Avios at the moment.

There are too many Avios out there at the moment, making flight bookings quite tricky unless you book 11 months out.

Can you keep them alive with a minimal redemption, like 4,500 for YYZ to NYC, until you need them?

I just used some of mine to fly Aer Lingus to Dublin.

There's good info about how to use them with partners on The Points Guy and FlyerTalk websites.

For those of you stuck with lots of Avios points in Vancouver, I might be interested in buying some points off you later this year (you would need to book the flights for me, and then I would give you cash). However, since this is RFD, I would only be willing to pay 65% of the lowest price I can find online though (e.g. - if a flight to Hawaii is retailing for $500, I would be willing to give you 70% of that, or $350).

PM if your up for my offer...

I tried to do the conversion online...

I entered: 10000 in the calculator.. it says I'm only getting 10000 BA Avios...
Is this a glitch? or will I be awarded the 50% later?

Unless you're willing to fly out of Bellingham the segment pricing would be at the minimum 17k Avios one way/34k round trip since there's no direct flights from YVR on AA or Alaska. (4.5+12.5 on Alaska one way via SEA/PDX, or 7.5+12.5 on AA one way via LAX)

If you're only paying $350, and taxes are around $100, someone will have to want to sell you a ticket at 34k avios for a $250 benefit... well under 1 cent per mile

I believe YYZ to LGA is still a good value. 18k for 2 roundtrip on AA.

Yes and no...yes technically you can...but no because there's never any availability

Avios points are really useless for redemption ..esp on partner airlines

Yup. That's why we cancelled our BA platinum card. We had over 100k points, and were only *once* able to redeem them for flights, never any availability. We use them for hotel/rental car now, trying to use them up, that's it.

I'm going to have to rethink the conversion and consider value of moving to aa without the bonus.

I mean to HKG from yyz on cx is 210K rt in J vs 100K in J so even with bonus, I don't think it's worth it. Unless perhaps you have a 241. But fees become and issue.

I'm sitting this conversion out.

I'm really glad there are posts like this. Keep telling people it sucks. Only helps my own redemptions.
