battery % left doubles as soon as I plug it in

I've noticed my Samsung S7's battery indicator will jump from critical (3-5%) to low (10-15%) as soon as I plug it in.

I know lithium batteries are sensitive to the cold, but does anyone else experience this?

Is this a sign of the battery needing to be replaced? Can I call Rogers and RMA this phone?
Or is this normal behavior for the S7?

I've only ever used slow charging with this phone, hoping that it would preserve the battery life.

Your phone's reading the battery voltage, which is sort of a "flow" measurement.

It's probably not a negative sign, and your battery's probably in good shape.

Have you drained the battery and recharged it completely recently ?

Perhaps start with that, it'll help your phone's electronics gauge the voltage better.

And test again.

While using what's app (chat app) on low brightness, my battery would drop a percent every 30 seconds. (until I charged it)

That's pretty big drain. Does that happen consistently? So say if you were at 100%, would it drop 1% every 30 seconds until it hit 0? Or does it stop dropping at a certain point.

It drops until the phone shuts off.

As for when it starts, it only happens in the cold. Plugging in a charger during the drop will halt the phenomena.

Toronto has been cold the last few days, which is way I've noticed it alot more. However, this is my first phone that's been influenced so strongly by the weather.

It's not just the cold. My cellphone never did this even in -25 weather including Samsung. I would say it's a dying or defective battery that you need to get fixed.

It is the time to replace the battery.
