Battery powered lawn trimmer questions

I just found my old lawn trimmer from storage that I haven't been used for a decade Face With Tears Of Joy

I just charged it and it is working.

1) I am reading the charging instruction. It says "Keep the battery charged when not in use to maximize the life of the battery". Obviously, I didn't charge it for the last decade ........ I also wonder as I thought constant charging would kill a battery. Why do they want us to constantly charge it ?

2) Honestly, I haven't used trimmer since I bought it a decade ago as I usually mow the lawn and too lazy to the trimming part Face With Tears Of Joy. Are those plastic strings universal to all trimmer ? Mine is a Black & Decker one, do I need to buy the one for the specific brand/model ?

Thanks for any advice

Lithium Ion battery? Black and Decker recent models use Li-Ion and they're pretty decent.

Plastic string is universal however Black & decker branded is definitely a lot more convenience, takes 10 seconds to swap but obviously not the cheapest. I usually buy 3 pack on sale for $18. One usually lasts a whole season.

Thanks. It is definitely not a recent model. As I mentioned, we bought it over a decade ago.

Where do you usually buy the string ? From Amazon ? Do we simply replace the whole roll of string to the unit ? Sorry for the silly question.

No worries, check the model but this is the pack I usually buy: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00004R9TL/?co ... _lig_dp_it

It's like a cartridge that pops in, just need to pull a few inches of line out into the eye.

Thanks. Back to the charging question, am I supposed to keep it charging (for this old model) ? I don't even know if the battery is replaceable. If not, it will be a garbage when the battery is dead.....

Depends on the model, Li-Ion it should be okay, NiMH or lead acid probably dead. If it's not replaceable then it's junk.

There are different sizes of string. Outside of that, yes, universal - no requirement typically to buy B&D brand for your B&D trimmer. Typically the inside of the head is setup to handle one (and sometimes a second) size of string.. Looks like the current B&D cordless are a .065 string size for reference.
