[Bed Bath And Beyond] Baratza Encore burr coffee grinder w/ 20% off ($151.99)

Not hot but definitely at least warm given the COVID situation. This has been out of stock just about everywhere online for a while now. Bed, Bath & Beyond finally has stock and I was able to stack the sign-up 20% coupon* on top. This is the new 2020 model, functionally unchanged with some minor aesthetic updates.

Picked this up for my dad, this is probably the most highly rated entry-level burr grinder on the interwebs. Got my order confirmation yesterday and it arrived just now - a bit shocked how fast it came. Was also very well packaged so kudos to you BBB.

I've never seen this go on sale online so getting 20% off the MSRP of $189.99 is at least warm. And having stock available and fast delivery makes it even better (medium-hot?).
Given the interest in the OXO burr grinder, I'll willingly accepting the inevitable downvotes for an ok deal if it means a few more of my RFD'rs can get their coffee fix.

Why this grinder:
- Baratza is known for great customer service when it comes to problems
- Good product mileage. There is a very solid inventory of replacement parts and online knowledge for DIY repairs
- Ability to DIY upgrade the stock burrs to the higher performance burrs of the more expensive Virtuoso/Preciso models
- The same review that made the OXO burr grinder it's top budget pick crowned the Encore best-overall.

*Some people have mentioned not seeing the pop-up for the 20% coupon when the go to the website. Others have solved this by using any browser other than Chrome.

How does this compare to the Oxo (I currently have it on order). Aside from functionality, what are your thoughts on size / look? Really just using this to grind drip for my Moccamaster.

One con I can see immediately - there is no timer. Is this a big deal? Seems like it would be nice to have a timer to help dose out....

You're fine with you oxo then. If you want to explore espressos on a pressurized filter, then this is for you. This price is good tough since usually its 174$ and I've spent too much time researching the grinders at different price points. I'm not much of an expert but from what I've gathered, this is not the best grinder for espresso since it doesn't deliver fine grinds. My siblings disagree but idk.

Build quality, customer service, upgradeability and repairability are all top notch with the Encore (Baratza in general). Never used an OXO though.

Just fyi, it has been on sale in the past for around $140. Still the deal in OP is good, especially because of BBB generous return/exchange policies.

How's this grinder vs the breville smart grinder pro? I mainly do double shot espressos but I find the french press coarseness to fine to my liking. Should I return the smart grinder pro for this?

I would also like to know. I can tell you one thing, I love the OXO grinder. It works and looks great. I mostly make french press and aeropress coffees. Not sure if I should invest the extra $70 or and get the Baratza...

Are people getting 20% off pop-up offers using Firefox? I'm not.
PSAs
------------------
-Read store exceptions before combining discounts with cash back sites
-Stocktrack.ca and homedepot.ca do not show clearance pricing for HD even if the item is on clearance.

Not a popup, you have to sign-up for their newsletter

I've done that and I don't have any that are valid to use, but as mentioned in the OP:

Love the grinder. Hate the static. Grounds all over the counter. Suggested fix: sprinkle water over the beans before grinding. I’d prefer the grinder just not have this problem, like my old Solus.

If you want an Encore, pull the trigger on this deal.

Past and better Encore deals have only come up around Black Friday, which is a long time to wait with no guarantee. And our dollar is weaker now.

Just to clarify, you're grinding into a portafilter right? With the grounds container, the static isn't an issue in terms of making a mess?

Anyone knows where to get the burrs upgrade in Canada?

If you are only grinding beans for drip, french press, aeropress, pour over, I'd recommend getting the OXO grinder on Amazon. I am very satisfied so far. It is $80 cheaper, quiet, high-quality built, and love the antistatic container...plus there is a timer so you can get nearly the same amount of grams of coffee each time you grind.

I'd suggest talking to Baratza directly regarding burrs. They have great customer service. If it's not Baratza I'd still suggest OEM first and then your local coffee equipment repair shop. There's usually only a couple repair shops in town that services all the cafes in your area.
