[Bed Bath And Beyond] Breville BES870XL Espresso Machine $480

Breville BES870XL is on sale for $599.99.

If you sign up and get the 20% off coupon you can get it for $480 + tax ($542.39) + 2.0 cashback from rakuten.

Cheapest I've seen since this post.

I bought the last deal on the Phillips Espresso Machine, but it doesn't do matcha lattes or hot chocolate.

That's not bad! I believe The Bay had a bunch of Promos back in Sep-Oct '19 where you could get it for $480 out the door - but seeing as this unit barely dips below $599, I would say this is a great dealio

Good price good machine.
1. Buy cheap, buy twice
2. Don’t buy because it’s cheap. Buy it when needed or it brings convenience/happiness/better quality in life
3. Buy now think (regret/return) later
4. If the gut says don’t tell your lady, don’t!

Just an FYI if you can wait and are not in a hurry last year it dropped to $540 during Black Friday/Boxing Day at Bed Bath and Beyond, so it may drop again but who knows.

I combined the boxing day drop with the 20% coupon and was able to purchase it for $488 after taxes (not including the % cashback from Rakuten).

If you need it this now it is probably the best deal with the 20% coupon.

Yaaaaay!! I ordered one and as soon as it arrives I will return the Philips machine back to Costco. I am not satisfied with it at all.

This is a great machine especially for the price.
It continuously wins 'best of list's' is great to learn on and makes fantastic drinks.

There's pre infusion, you can alter the temperature by a couple degrees, you can pre program volume amounts (for grinds and output), you get 2 pressurized baskets (forgiving with grind/tamp/quantity) and 2 pressurized baskets (for when you want to get better extraction) there's a hot water spout and there's a traditional steam wand.

The steam wand is slow, as a result it's alot more forgiving when texturing milk.

The biggest complaint people have is the grinder, however, I've found that the grinder is extremely adequate. For the price range, it's a great machine.

Fyi

I use Urnex Dezcal powder to descale every 2 months and Urnex Cafiza tablets to backflush every 2-3 weeks in order to maintain the machine. (Both can be found on Amazon)

I've had my machine for almost a full year now.

So is a machine like this vastly superior to say a top of the line Nespresso machine?

Yeah, if you want fresh espresso from beans, for sure. This is the best of the cheap machines, i would recommend it unless you want to get into the $3000+ range (which you probably will eventually, espresso's a hobby)

Does this make coffee as well like the Costco Phillips model?

My daily driver for over 5 years now
Its a solid machine with a pretty flat learning curve

Signing up for the coupon a second time by adding a period in your gmail account should work? Put a random postal code instead of one used before?

Had mine close to 5 years.

Use cheaper 3rd party cleaning tabs and do regular cleaning.
Don't use distilled water.
I try to avoid oily beans, the grinder is not the best, but it's adequate for medium roast beans.

how easy is it to use? if you woke up in the morning and wanted to make coffee, how long does it take including prep and cleanup time?

how much maintenance time/costs do you have to do on it each day/week?
The Philips 3100 from Costco is a superautomatic machine where as this one you have to more work to get an espresso.

Id rather keep my Philips automatic machine and I dought there huge difference in taste when making coffee or cappuccino.

With Costco you get better warranty than BBB.

As tomw said, two different types of machines. The Saeco is push and play, this one involves a little more prep and work.
I have a BES860XL (model before this) and it still works as my daily machine. I had to buy a new solenoid recently, but beyond that good machine overall. I can't vouch for the solenoid on this model, but the one I bought was listed as an 860/870 model...

Time to make and cleanup up for a single espresso and double shot latte is about 10 minutes a day for me.

The Clean Me light turns on once every 2-3 months for me. Buy some cleaning tabs off Amazon and they will last you the life of the machine. Descale with vinegar every 3-6 months on top of that. This machine should last 10 years easily.
c'mon get happy!

How come no distilled water? I was told it's the best thing to do to keep it clean.
