Echoing the above users comments.

Bought some "fabberware" knives, they cut but didn't seem to do a good job. Looking for something better without breaking the bank.

This was easy to find: reviews and product description halfway down the page might provide you with answers

The bolster design of this knife would make it easier to sharpen.
The usual advice given on these forums is to buy a good chef and paring knife individually as the block sets generally have a couple of extraneous knives that are seldom used.

I have this set and it's extremely sharp.

The only items I use are the Chef Knife and occasionally the 5.5" prep knife, and scissors.

If i were to do it again, I would just buy the Chef knife, scissors, and block. Then add another style of chef knife.

When first thinking about buying this set, many others told me to just buy the knives I would use, but because I was lazy and didn't listen, I bought this set. While I love the knives and they are super sharp I only really use one of the knives (Chef knife) and the rest are seldom used.

Victorinox is a good cheaper line. They're stamped knives so won't compete with the henckel's 4 stars, but are very low maintenance (they're even dishwasher safe!) and last forever. They're easy to sharpen as well.

This video does a very good job of showing why and let you see them at work.

I know everyone suggests just buying the knives you will use but at that price does it not make sense to buy a set like this and just replace the knives you don't use with something you do?
Henckel 8" Four Star Chef Knife is on sale for $149.99
Henckel 8" Four Star Bread Knife is on sale for$129.00
Henckel 4" Four Star Paring Knife is on sale for $79.00

Prices for above are from the zwilling.ca site but just those 3 knives are worth more than the set and you still don't have the shears of the block

Financially it seems to make sense to buy the set and just replace anything you don't use?

Is $47 a good price for this knife? Also, i'm looking for a knife set with block under $100? Anything decent at that price? Or any recommendations of knives to buy separately?

I looked at the five star but have never found them on the Henckel site which makes me question them.

I'd say this is a good deal considering a Zwilling 8" chef knife is ~$100. You are getting the 4 other knives, honing steel, shears, block for $100 more. I would say the bread knife and paring knife are essential pieces in your kitchen anyway.

We don’t always cut bread since we buy the sliced bread. However I have to agee that the chef knife and paring are our main go to knifes. However, the piece that have a special piece in our heart is the shears and the standalone Zwilling shears retails for ~$50 and it is worth it.

I can’t find a video that shows it at work but we use it to trim fat and skin off meats, chicken into pieces with bones, basically anywhere that it may be a bit tricky or slippy to use a knife, the shear will do the work.

There's also life time warranty on the shears. If anything's wrong with it, Henckels will exchange it for you.

I have the 4 Star paring knife. It's a nice knife and I use it, but I prefer this Victorianox and use it more often. I think it's the flexibility of the blade I like

Amazon's price fluctuates a lot- I paid $11 a year ago
