They'll probably give you a couple of months free at the beginning, and when you least expect it, they will start billing you for it

No, it’s for a year. Moreover, they email you the details of the services and price. Alt TV is not for everyone but it’s very appealing to people not enamoured with Live TV. Rogers really needs something similar.

Alt-TV + 5 channels from a list ( TLC, Food, CTV News, CBC Newsworld and Fox News, for example) would be $15+$5 a month. For people with Apple TV4+ or Shield TV this is quite intriguing. There are limitations, of course. No recording and, depending on whom you talk to, no pausing of Live TV. You can pause certain previously aired shows.

Gigabit FTTH + Alt TV+ 5 channels+Crave TV would be around $90 for a year. Afterwards, it would be, without Crave TV, around $120. This is without even bargaining a lot.

You can add TMN/HBO Canada for an extra price.

What was that?

Shomi.
I think what @pmcd was referring to was a Rogers competitor to Bell’s Alt-TV (lightweight streaming based TV service). Or maybe I totally misread his post.

If you have ALT TV I highly recommend adding the 'Favourites 10' package under the 'Adult And More' section. Its the best value for extra stations instead of adding the 5/$5/
With the $10 favourites you get
AMC
Bravo
CNN
CP24
HGTV
Space
SportsNet (East, West, Ontario and Pacific)
SportsNet1
TSN 1,2,3,4,5
W Network.

Its 10 bucks for the sports channels and more when they charge you $15 just for the sports nets or $15 for the 5 TSN Stations.

We currently pay $25/month for our TV service and have all the sports we want and a few other popular specialty channels.
I'm looking forward to seeing what CraveTV adds to the offering.

I noticed this as well when I went to check out the free Crave. I thought it was too good to be true. This and the basic channels are all I need.

Is the Favourites 10 package no longer available? I couldn't find it in the lineup.
