Bell Vs Rogers Vs Telus

Hi RFD community,

I’m in Ontario and looking to switch one of my freedom lines to the big three.

Which one of these is the best in:

1. Coverage
2. Customer Service
3. Speeds
4. Not having frequent plan rate increase

Any other things worth considering?

Thanks a lot.

1. Depends on your location
2. Rumour is Telus
3. Bell (based on independent tests)
4. Ha Ha Ha Ha

I personally prefer Rogers, mainly because they offer name display for numbers that are not stored on your phone book

Speeds are similar between all carriers. Some test I have seen says Bell has a faster 5G network. Unless you are downloading large files to your phone regularly, I wouldn’t be too concerned about speeds.

The Big Three are nearly the same. Although, depending on where you live, some people may have a bad experience with one of the Big Three. So they stick with what they are familiar with. All Big Three will eventually increase your plan prices some point in the future.

Thanks.

I live in KW region.

Also, can you tell me what's the difference between these brands and fido vs Virgin vs koodo? Little confused here as they offer cheaper plans than big 3

The only advantage I can say is they let you LEASE phones. LOL

I'll leave my Fido and Koodo out of it because they're basically identical in Coverage, Speed. I don't worry about Customer Service, everything is self serve and easier, I can't remember the last time I had a billing issue.

Back then ( talking about 7+ years) the only reason I was with Rogers was because my sister's corporate plan and credits on upgrades but it all changed to the point switching was cheaper.

Anyways, I left the two out because my only issue with Freedom is when we went to Blue Mountain, twice two years ago where I had no coverage.

My other was last year, where I guess doing maintenance near my work and for a week it was shit.

I love being with Fido, Freedom and Koodo.

Thanks for sharing your experience.
Does 5g works on fido/koodo? Or any plans in near future?
It doesn't work on freedom at the moment

Fido and Koodo don't offer 5G. If you want 5G, you will have to go with the big 3. No idea if they will offer it in the future. The do share networks with Rogers/Telus etc but you will have to go with them if you want 5G right now.

The cheaper sub brands offer less phone choices, poorer customer service and I can’t confirm this, but people have said that priority is given to the premium brands over the sub brands when it comes to access to Cell towers. Meaning that if everyone jumps on the same tower, priority will be given to the customer that pays for the premium service

As for 5G, I think you will eventually get it on all brands. At some point, they will not want to maintain two separate networks. Once there is mass deployment, it will trickle down as a feature.

1. Coverage: Very dependent on location, sometimes even different in parts of the city.... One consensus I've heard is that Bell or Telus is better when travelling rurally. Personally, I found that Rogers has stronger coverage throughout Edmonton where I live, compared to Telus with so many weak spots.

2. Customer Service: This is also situation dependent... Most people on RFD say that Bell has the absolute worst CS out of all mobile carrier brands, so they call them Bhell. For Rogers, the CS agents are in Canada. Telus outsources them overseas. That being said, never had a problem with Rogers or Telus customer service...

3. Speeds: Bell or Telus wins in most Canadian cities. Looks like Telus wins in Kitchener, according to PCMag. https://www.pcmag.com/news/fastest-mobi ... 21/ontario With that being said, honestly it's not that huge of a difference unless one carrier is extremely slow somewhere.

4. Not having frequent plan rate increase: This I'm not completely sure since I never had to experience this.

I know that up in my cottage area near Parry sound, bell is the best, my Telus service works ok and Rogers still hasn't figured out where northern Ontario is.
I think in any city it's a coin toss, outside of the city is where the differences appear

I'm not quite sure, maybe within the past year or two. I did a bit of a world-tour last year between all the providers so did see it working with Bell & Telus (who i'm with now).

Telus calls it Call Display+: https://www.telus.com/en/on/support/art ... -explained
Bell calls it caller name display: https://support.bell.ca/mobility/rate_p ... ty_service

Is it included with your service or is there an extra charge?

It's included as far as I know. It has been with any rate plans I've had at least.

Rogers also has a negative nickname in many forums and that is "Robbers"

That being said, I've never referred to them as "Robbers" and I've never referred to Bell has "Bhell" and I've had negative experiences with both companies.

I'm not the type of person who will change the name of an individual/company but will just say something that "Rogers shortchanged me on... and they are a bunch of crooks" (for example) or "Bell told me to take my business elsewhere and they don't value their longtime customers" (for example).

Both examples are made up and not my experience at least within the short term
