Hmm - interesting Best buy site states VESA 100 x 100 size, but picture shows no mounting holes.
Asus site has no mention of VESA mounting possibility at all.

Are they capable of 72hz or 48hz (whatever does smooth 24p playback)?

Yep. Looks like there is some vesa adapter you can buy.
Should've included with the product.

Adapter looks like it’s this one. Not 100% sure as model slightly different, but in any case looks awkward with the stem attached like that.

I'd say an IPS at 60hz is better for watching movies and tv shows, if you're serious about gaming you might want to invest in a 120/144 hz monitor. However if you're trying to combine both it can get very expensive so try to figure out what's more important to you.

I'm using the monitor now. I can certainly appreciate that you need a 4k monitor at this size if your main focus is composing documents, working with excel, detailed graphics or CAD. Text looks rough and choppy. On the other hand, video looks great.

There is a 27 inch 1080p ips Acer monitor on sale during BF at walmart that is also borderless. But on the box states it is 1 ms. It's going for 178$ on BF. On the walmart site it's a different monitor with the same name, but in store i've seen it and it's defn saying 1 ms on the box. Any ideas if that would be better? It does have 100 x 100 VESA built in.

Do you have the model number? I've never seen an IPS monitor with 1ms response time, the fastest IPS monitors are around 3-4ms.
