[Best Buy] $199.99 - Seagate Expansion 10TB Desktop External Hard Drive (STEB10000400)

Compatible with PCs running Windows 7 or higher
10TB capacity offers plenty of space for all your photos, videos, games, and files
USB 3.0 interface delivers fast data transfer speeds
Easy setup requires no software--just plug in the power supply and USB cable and you're ready to go
Includes a 120cm (4ft) USB 3.0 cable, power supply, and quick start guide

I shucked 2 of these to use in my Synology Nas - Seagate Barracuda Pro.
Thread Summary
Here's a quick summary of all the data points in this thread, to predict the drive inside. Collected up to post #257.
Barracuda Pro
-> 02/20 (1 reports)
-> 06/20 (1 reports)

Ironwolf Pro
-> 07/20 (7 reports) - S/N Prefix: NAABAY* / NAABAZ*, Silver Sticker
-> 08/20 (11 reports) - S/N Prefix: NAABAC* / NAABC*, Hologram Seal
-> 09/20 (6 reports) - S/N Prefix: NAABE7*, Clear Seal

Exos X16
-> 09/20 (13 reports) - S/N Prefix: NAABDR* / NAABDS* / NAABD*, Clear Sticker

Unknown So Far
-> 09/20 (2 reports - Post #220, Post #223) - S/N Prefix: NAABF*, Clear Sticker

So it seems like in the middle of the runs, they suddenly switched to Exos X16 (BD in serial number), before returning to Ironwolf Pro, or are doing both in parallel.

anabioz wrote: For those of you who want to convert it from 512e (512-bytes emulated) to 4KN (4096-bytes Native):

1) Connect Exo drive via SATA (data + power)

2) Download SeaChest Utilities and unzip it:
http://support.seagate.com/seachest/Sea ... lities.zip

3) Open CMD as Administrator

4) Navigate to the unzipped folder

5) Break down of the commands:

# Show available drives (note the PhysicalDrive aka PD, example: PD1)
SeaChest_Format_140_11923_64.exe --scan

# Show supported formats, *512 / 4096
SeaChest_Lite_120_11923_64.exe -d PD1 --showSupportedFormats

# Format it to 4096
SeaChest_Format_140_11923_64.exe -d PD1 --setSectorSize 4096 --confirm this-will-erase-data

6) Shutdown the system (if the system hangs, disconnect the sata cable)
# shutdown / timeout 0 / force

shutdown -s -t 0 -f

7) Rinse and repeat for each drive
NOTE: You can obviously connect more than one drive at a time, just note PD# for each and perform operation for each.

The Amazon one I bought a month or so ago has an Ironwolf Pro in it, not a Barracuda Pro.

I got Barracuda Pro's in my Expansion units. Then I bought some Seagate Backup Plus models, and those were all Ironwolf Pros. So YMMV. Either way hell of a deal.

Thanks, ordered one.
Based on what I can find, older versions are Barracuda Pro but newer ones have chance of being Ironwolf Pro.

Hoping for Barracuda Pro but Ironwolf Pro is fine as well.

Thanks OP! Needed a dump drive and was waiting for something good at the magical $20/TB mark.

If I shuck it, I'll report back as to what's inside. Super curious whether it'll be Ironwolf or Barracuda.

From Seagate website
BarraCuda Pro
Perfect For: High performance desktop, creative pro desktop applications, gaming, DAS devices

Ironwolf Pro
Perfect For: Small and medium businesses, creative pro NAS

In short: Ironwolf Pro was optimized for NAS (24/7 usage) vs BarraCuda Pro for more standard usage

I am running out of space on my media server. Was waiting for black friday. I have shucked old external hard drives before, has it gotten complicated or still just unscrew and unplug connections?

Thank you. If I’m using it for long term media storage of photos and backups, does it matter which one I end up with?

In my opinion, either would be fine for long term media storage, but some might disagree.
