[Best Buy] $349.99 - LG 27" 4K UHD 60Hz 5ms GTG IPS LED FreeSync Gaming Monitor (27UL550-W) - White

I remember this monitor was $399.99 (and it was on sale already) last week, I am thinking $349.99 is a good deal for a 4K monitor at this moment. Refresh rate is only at 60 Hz.

If you want an easier go of it:

LG UK6500 43" 4K IPS TV (Refurbished) @ TVOutlet

Price: $369.99

Yes, it's a UK6500, which is identical to the 6300 but with more Smart features. It also uses the same IPS panel technology well-suited for monitor use. If Walmart is a no-go for you, this is your backup option.

If you're in the GTA, you can also visit their Mississauga and North York locations.

Folks, don't forget about this great stand for the LG UK6300, turning it into a proper monitor.

LG UK6300 Suggested Calibrations for Monitor Use

Word to the wise for folks. This TV loves auto-dimming even in Game Mode, I've fixed it this way...

Settings >> Picture >> Picture Mode Settings = Expert (Bright Mode)

> Additional Settings
HDMI ULTRA HD Deep Color: Turn ON

> Picture Mode Settings
Backlight - 100
Contrast - 95
Brightness - 50
Sharpness - 10
Color - 65
Tint - 0

>> Picture Options
Black Level - Low
Motion Eye Care - Off

>> Expert Controls
Dynamic Contrast - Off
Super Resolution - Off
Color Gamut - Extended
Color Filter - Off
Gamma - 2.4

>>> White Balance
Color Temperature - Cool
Method - 2 Points
Pattern - Outer
Point - High
Red - 0
Green - 0
Blue - 0

>>> Color Management System
Color - Red
Saturation - 0
Tint - 0
Luminance - 0

On Remote: Select Input Button
> All Inputs

Under your HDMI input for your PC
> Click 'Edit Icon'
>> Select 'PC' Icon

Selecting the PC icon for the input disables post-processing garbage and reduces the input delay.

You will need an HDMI 2.0 or newer cable to get this to work.

Nothing, it was just too wide for my liking, the one stand I recommend gives it a nice firm base.

I disagree, monitors are generally used on a desk at which point larger ones just end up further away or being totally impractical. I think we're basically hitting the upper limit on monitor size, no one needs a monitor that they can't even see most of without moving their head around. I'm with you on the idea that 4K monitors are on the edge of pointlessly high resolution though. I actually own two of these monitors and other than in 3D games (mostly based on how raster graphics are rendered) I rarely notice the difference.

For productivity nothing beats the clarity of a dedicated monitor. TVs are tweaked for smoothing out video, not displaying crisp text. Additonally the UK6500 has a RGBW pixel layout which makes it a particularly poor choice.

Otherwise, I own two of these and they're great all-round monitors but if gaming is your #1 concern I'd get something else because the freesync range is very small (40-60).

You've got to use the panel as a monitor before making those claims. I now have four 21.5" monitors in one giant 4K panel, the 27" just doesn't compare for productivity.

Furthermore the pixel layout is the same as a monitor, you're thinking of the checkerboard pixels on the Vizio and TCL panels. LG manufacturers it's own panels directly and doesn't include garbage compromises like that.

Conflicting opinions in this thread. Is the 40” lg tv a good desktop monitor or no? I agree 27” seems like a waste for 4k

Under the monitor category it was a topic pick by RTings for 2018. It's only beaten by the LG UM7300 (2019) in value for money when comparing MSRPs.
https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/lg/uk6300

But at clearance or refurbished pricing, it's a clear winner. The UK6500 is a minor upgrade on the 6300 with 4 HDMIs instead of three and possible Smart TV enhancements.
